I'm just wondering what is your experience of Covid19 in your child's school, either secondary or primary in the Republic of Ireland.
I feel we are not being given the true picture.
If there is a case in school are the whole class being sent home ?
What about siblings in other classes?

Stephen Donnelly said today the incidence of Covid 19 in the community is 6% and in schools is 1.9%

Theres a very good facebook group on facebook called Alerting parents to cases in Irish schools. All cases verified. Of course lots aren't verified. For example the school.I work in has two official cases and three non official as test results came in on a monday and HSE only counts 48hrs before test .

They are hiding school cases for the keep schools open agenda. I've had two close contact alerts at school but as we all wear maskswere told we didn't need testing.

This is happening in all schools.

Friend of a friend type thing...

1 child tested positive, entire classroom had to isolate for 14 days/get tested (primary school). Same in a playschool.

I've heard of secondary school classes sent home too, and testing done (presume isolation also)

A mask doesn't mean you are not a close contact in the workplace, Readandwalk! And I doubt you are talking about N95 masks either.

There was a case in DS's class. All the other children continued to come to school and none of them were tested; the public health risk assessment said non of them were close contacts, even kids in her pod Hmm

Soon afterwards, their teacher went out sick and has been out for two weeks so far. That may or may not be related, obviously.

I am repeating what the HSE recommended. In other words they deem teachers as not close contacts. It's a disgrace we are not tested. RTE have exposed the story. It's their agenda, they dont want teachers ( quite a few in this case) off as schools must stay open.

Close contact usually means a test and two weeks restricted movements but not if that close contact is in a school.

I'm a teacher who always wears a mask in class and one of my pupils (young primary) was hugging me. I then contracted covid from this child. Masks don't protect you, they protect others if you are infected. If a pupil tests positive the whole class and staff should be isolating for 14 days.

Very large school here and no issues whatsoever and no one sent home or positive cases verified. Maybe the viral load in children is lower ? Maybe due to recent vaccinations they don’t get it so severely, whatever it is I’m so glad children do not get really ill with it. That’s one very, big positive.
Has there been any deaths reported of teachers in Ireland?

It's hard to know.
Hopefully Halloween break will halt things a bit

I teach in a large urban primary school. We’ve had no cases.
