I think this would only work if it's alongside a 'circuit breaker' - a full lockdown. Otherwise, you'll have parents having to go to work and kids age 13+ left to their own devices for 2-3 weeks?

At this stage, based on what I see day-to-day, too many people are ignoring regulations, guidance, etc. for it to make much of a difference.

Totally agree. Also something has to be done about the weekly anti mask protests in the capital... We can't travel outside the county to visit our elderly parents but these "protesters" congregate every Saturday & absolutely nothing is done to stop them..

Couldn't agree more with this!

Totally agree with the anti-mask protests , it makes a total mockery of the efforts everyone else is going to.
But I honestly don’t believe shutting the schools for 2/3 weeks or however long is going to make a huge difference as it’s still there when they reopen. Also plp will start to gravitate towards their families for childcare etc in order to be able to work, I’m pretty surprised to see how many older (over 60’s) grandparents are back on the school runs. I also think there is way less buy-in this time. So many mixed messages all the cafes , pubs, restaurants closed down where I love after huge investments and commitments to making things as safe as possible but only a few months ago we were told to support local businesses and that there would be tax incentives etc.
Maybe a pp is right and we need a total lockdown for weeks and weeks to slow it all down but what’s that going to do for the economy? And reality is it’ll surge back up again around Christmas. We know it’ll prob go down again spring/summer but then there’ll be so much damage done with thousands unemployed etc. I’m not sure what the answer is but an extra week off school will do feck all except cause more disruption for children and parents etc..

I don’t envy the government though
