Wow... this makes for very disturbing reading.

I know it's a survey, and as a result it can be debated, etc ...What the hell is going on :(

It's a lot worse than back in my time there!

Saw a story on that yesterday. Grim reading alright. It reminded me of a different study I saw recently that found young people under 25 in Ireland had the most sexist attitudes of any age group, worse that people in their 30s and older. Real traditional gender role shite - a man should be head of the household, a man should earn more money than his female partner, that sort of thing. I was gobsmacked.

I can't help but think that these regressive sexist attitudes are an inevitable consequence of gender identity culture. Real men like football and women, real women like pink sparkly things and men; anyone who transgresses these rigid gender norms must be trans. Ffs.

And how do rigid sexist attitudes about gender roles manifest? A sense of male entitlement to sex and higher levels of sexual intimidation, abuse, and assault.

Ugh 🤦‍♀️

@MarDhea - spot on.

You throw in the easy access to porn where women are objects whose sole purpose is to satisfy men and no only means persuade me and you end up with this appallingly misogynistic environment..

I think there's a rape culture in Ireland and it's always been there. I'm not sure it's any worse than what it was in the past, it's just talked about more now instead of swept under the carpet in true Irish fashion.

I saw a poll earlier this week asking how many women have been groped on a night out and I wasn't surprised to see the amount of women posting that they had.

I'm in my mid 50's and everyone of my friends and myself can remember when we were younger most nights out we'd experience some letch trying to grope us or do worse. It wasn't confined to college either.

Over the weekend a prominent Irish comedian accused of rape, abuse, and predatory behaviour has come to light with the public with more and more women coming forward claiming he abused them is disgusting.

@honeyrider , I know it's always been there. During my college days I know two of extended friendship there were raped (and at the time most people did not speak about it). But reading that report it just left me with the feeling that it was worse today.

Also, the report was in an article on thejournal.ie, and the comments were frankly awful!! (OK, I know comments section there is typically full of angry bitter FG/SF men ... but still ... )

Another piece from the Irish Times here

Students and sexual assault: ‘We had sex. Well, he had sex’
Sexual assault at college is usually a hidden issue.

I'm fairly certain it's not just Ireland though

Shocking statistics.
I just don't understand. Women are more vocal, there's the MeToo movement , I'm pretty sure it's addressed in schools and yet it seems things are getting worse. Sad
