Is there any hope they'll reopen after the Easter break?

But for loads of British school kids they are due back mid August so wouldn't be cutting the holidays short for them all at. In fact if schools didn't open till September they would be getting an extra three weeks summers holiday.

peppafrig the new school year starts in September in Ireland (Craicnet is the Irish board).

Realistically I think it will be September too, as much as I’m clinging to the hope that they get a few weeks before the end of June. DS1 is in Junior Infants and they have a system whereby the JIs are divided into smaller groups of 20-odd and then they merge into classes of 30 in SI. I’m sad he won’t get to go back to his smaller group. Silly of me obviously in the grand scheme of things it’s not exactly a big deal.

The New Year starts mid August in Scotland as they finish up in June . I'm sure the kids would love the extension but not really sure it's fair to keep Scottish kids off for an extra three weeks and miss out on that education. If everything else is back up and running. So that's why I think mid August.

Fair enough peppafrig but you said this to a PP:

But for loads of British school kids they are due back mid August so wouldn't be cutting the holidays short for them all at.

I’m just pointing out that this board is for Irish MNers so the situation in the UK isn’t what is being discussed on this thread. We are discussing Ireland’s school system.

So if the children were to come back to school in August their holidays would indeed be cut short.

@Apple1971 I dont know about the UK, but I hear only positive comments about the teachers round here.

I have 2 siblings who are teachers, one primary and one secondary; there's no sign of them being "off work". Both busy every day.

Their biggest gripe is that the work they're setting is not necessarily being followed...and they're concerned for the children who will fall behind.
The ones who have parents who can give them time, that have the technology, who have space at home to do work, who have parents who can organise the day for the children and who have enough food in the house, will do fine.
Its the other children they're very concerned for.

There will always be naysayers....just decide who you pay attention to.
The majority will be very appreciative but not necessarily vocal for fear of seeming sycophantic.

I’ve been wondering if they’ll bring the kids back before September, cutting into their summer holiday. It might make sense if we’re facing another shut down in the autumn.

Mine aren’t sure about RTÉ school, though I’m enjoying an hour to get things done without constant questions. The múinteoirí are certainly very chirpy. Grin

It’s easy to be chirpy when you’re “teaching” in an empty classroom!😂

Can't simply bring the kids back early - teachers have a set amount of days they are paid for. You would be looking at either paying teachers extra for that teaching time or saying there will be no learning at all during the second shutdown.

@Barbararara I have put rte school on a couple of mornings and my seven year old is still on the fence about it. I was in the kitchen on Thursday when my four year old ran in shouting "mammy quick start fast forwarding as the talking Irish bit is on" so I'm expecting great fun when he starts school in September 😀😀😀😀

@SparkyBlue 😂 I have one who doesn’t like Irish or music and nearly ran me over in his mad rush to get out of the room when he realised they were going to sing in Irish.

I'm also desperate for them to go back, for their sakes and for mine. But I can't see it happening until Sept -- some are even saying January 2021! Confused

Do they do much Irish? I dont have any kids but I work in a Naíonra, we're not fully Irish as I am not fluent. I might get a few ideas.
