I know March 29th is the date given but realistically it's going to be extended.... I'm thinking May 1st at the very earliest...

Nobody knows...

jaimebravo · 14/03/2020 19:20

I am hoping if we all keep our heads down, it will be after Easter holidays.
It's hard to say really especially after the big jump in cases today.

elizabethdraper · 14/03/2020 19:21

September

kathryn19801 · 14/03/2020 19:21

They have said in the North when they close it will be for 16 weeks..... Could be a while yet in the South x

JaneJeffer · 14/03/2020 19:24

Someone on The Tonight Show during the week reckoned it would be September.

peppersneezes000 · 14/03/2020 22:42

I honestly think it will be September too😟

No I can't imagine September! But we really don't know what's ahead. Our 200 or so icu beds is not going to be adequate. Majority in my community are v much staying put and I am going from my house to my dad's only. There is a real sense we can help how this goes so we have to do our bit. It's pretty frightening for many.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 14/03/2020 22:47

So for those who will be moving schools, they’ll just never go back to their primary school?

Heygirlheyboy · 14/03/2020 22:59

If it is September, yes I suppose that will be the case. I cannot imagine that scenario. I feel we're doing all we can.

Shopgirl1 · 15/03/2020 07:34

Gosh, September would be a nightmare for working parents with no childcare options.

Heygirlheyboy · 15/03/2020 08:06

It's like another world.

JaneJeffer · 15/03/2020 10:05

Because of the long weekend I don't think it has sunk in yet. Next week is going to be very strange when the reality of not meeting up with friends, etc., hits home.

tegucigalpa13 · 15/03/2020 10:59

Not before September

Iblinkedandiamold · 15/03/2020 13:46

I work in Childcare and wages wise we are preparing for not opening until Aug/September.
I have to sign on on Monday and employer is going to top up wages but what if funding stops. We aren't charging parents so only funding coming in. Kind of worried about the bills. I'm fine for a few weeks but if it goes on for longer I dont know.

TaTuirseOrm · 15/03/2020 21:19

September, really??? Wow, I was thinking after Easter break - don't know how we will cope until September.

Redwinestillfine · 15/03/2020 21:22

I think it will be September. No point in shutting the schools in the first place if it's only for a few weeks...

Margotshypotheticaldog · 15/03/2020 21:22

Has anyone else heard the rumour of lock down from Tuesday? Announcement due tomorrow morning?? Hard to know what's true and what's not, I was completely blind sided by the schools closing.

Margotshypotheticaldog · 15/03/2020 21:23

Jesus. September.

DramaAlpaca · 15/03/2020 21:26

I'm thinking September too.

peppersneezes000 · 15/03/2020 21:51

The news tonight at 9 was seriously depressing.... George Lee said we're looking at the schools, bars restaurants etc being closed for weeks & weeks & weeks... Then he said 16 weeks...

OP posts:
Pinkerpellosa · 15/03/2020 21:53

Until after Easter for sure.
I don't know what money people are going to live on

Designerenvy · 16/03/2020 01:19

September ? What happens with state exams then, I wonder?

Designerenvy · 16/03/2020 01:22

@Margotshypotheticaldog, I e heard the rumour about the lockdown too, but not sure whether to believe it or not.
People are advising to fill your car and heating oil.
It's hard to know what's true and fake at the moment .

DuchessDumbarton · 16/03/2020 01:35

Worth looking at the Italian intensive care professor interviewed by JAMA here.

We are lucky to have their warning- 14days since their first case and he feels the "surge" is still to come (that's my interpretation of what he says).

We need to go into intense lockdown now ...no pubs, Corona parties, trips to the beach, "running into" friends on local walks etc.
Lots of teens out today (according to my DC) meeting up at the local indoor slots/bowling areas. Angry Angry

"Flatten the curve" (ref John Campbell).... slow down the rate of transmission, so that those of us who get it, or whose parents get it, will have a hospital bed to go to.

Flowers to all our nurses, doctors, ambulance personnel, admin support who will be putting themselves on the line.

And to answer your question OP, I can't see schools reopening. We will see our surge coming in the next 4-8weeks (all those Cheltenham returners will be shedding for the next 2 weeks, then all their contacts and so on).

Please God, NI gets agreement to coordinate their response with the RoI.

7Days · 16/03/2020 01:39

September, I think, as well.
We probably went into things a little quick, but with St P.Day it was probably necessary
Also, it segued things nicely from long weekend, to 2 week closure, to Easter.
Epedimiologists have a fair idea of how these things play out. They wouldn't undo all thats been done for the sake of a few weeks

I'd imagine there will be online classes, or revisolion packs, and the exams will be held at a later date. Will the actual Mark's achieved matter, when it comes to points for CAO? Doubtful. If there are only 100 places for a particular course, the top 100 that apply for it will get it even if standards, as measured by points, drop. Theres so much to get organised for everyone to make sure things get done, in some sense.

I'm no expert, with no high up connections, but I do think a lock down is coming. There was a lot of new cases today.
