Is Mibbeck an Irish boy's name?

My ancestor is transcribed as Mibbeck on the 1841 UK census. There appears to be no such name. His parents were Irish. What might he actually have been called? I'm thinking it could be something beginning with Mc.

I think you're most likely right gabsdot.

So as I mentioned earlier, later records list a Michael. Here's the original that clearly says Mibbeck .
I reckon that 'my boy' said quickly in a Kerry/Cork accent could sound like Mibbeck.

Would it not be a phonetic of "mo mhic" (pronounced moh-vick) i.e. "my son" in Gaeilge?

My great grandmother's name was Beatrice. For ages I couldn't find her in a census until I eventually found her as Bedras. That was obviously what the enumerator heard through my great great grandfather's thick Devonian accent!

No idea about Mibbeck though! Try a different census or look for the birth?

@gabsdot45’s explanation sounds the most plausible.

Mo mhic sounds plausible. A bit like amhich as I suggested above. Ignore spelling.
