That was tough viewing. That woman should be prosecuted for how she behaved toward those children. But what's the bets the crèches will change name again and people will still send their kids there.

I'm still sick to my stomach over it to be honest. We moved back to Ireland a few months ago and are still looking for childcare, I've never been a fan of nurseries but this is the final nail in the coffin (although I know there are some fabulous ones out there).

Agree that nothing will change. Yes she's stepping down from frontline caring but she'll still be the boss - so the culture will remain the same.

Those poor kids Sad

RuggerHug · 25/07/2019 09:45

It was heartbreaking. It just seemed to get worse and worse the more they showed.

HiGunny · 25/07/2019 13:18

Just watched it on Rte player. Horrific. Those poor babies! I agree that nothing will change, and there is such a shortage of creche places in Dublin that parents will still send their children there.
Why does it always take Prime Time to expose these creche failings? Why is there not better regulation in the sector?

Deadringer · 25/07/2019 13:40

I think creches are all much the same, yes some have a few lovely people working there, but at the end of the day they are money making institutions and staff are over worked and underpaid for what they do. I have lots of friends who are childminders and many of them worked in creches and hated it. In every one of the settings ratios are messed around with to the detriment of the children. I childmind and I know i don't do everything perfectly, I don't have a set routine and I don't do things by the book. But, I am genuinely fond of the children I care for, I make sure they are safe and engaged and happy, in much the same way as I looked after my own DC, and their parents are happy with that. Obviously some childminders don't give a shit so I am not saying they are always ideal either. I honestly don't believe that creches, with their (necessary) strict routines and business approach are the right places to provide a caring environment for children, but obviously people need childcare. Inspections only cover so much and often a place can seem very good on paper and tick all the boxes but are not actually a very caring, nurturing environment. I don't have any answers unfortunately but I think more and more creches will be exposed for being at worst abusive and at best uncaring.

I actually couldn't face watching it. Sad

Namelessinseattle · 25/07/2019 20:26

I’ve had to just turn it off, it got to the bit where it focuses on individual interactions with kids- I can’t watch that. I wonder did anyone have any inkling? Like my son did odd hours and he used to bring art stuff home and have paint stains and stuff so I assume everything was fine but how would you know? The tescos noodles were grim.

qazxc · 29/07/2019 08:24

These people shouldn't run a childcare facility. One of them stepping down from frontline duties ( so still making money and being the boss) is not enough.
There should be prosecutions by the parents or the state for substandard care, they should be put out of business for good.

LaurieMarlow · 29/07/2019 12:43

She should be behind bars and forced to pay compensation to parents. I agree it's appalling that the sector isn't better regulated.

However, there are very good nurseries out there. It's often very hard to get a place in them as they're very popular.

beanaseireann · 29/07/2019 16:52

It said in a paper yesterday the company made profits of between €700,000 and €800,000 - yes - between seven hundred and eight hundred thousand euro !!!
Aren't creche/ nursery workers badly paid ?

RuggerHug · 30/07/2019 10:35

Yes Bean they are, but not management. It's sick.

qazxc · 30/07/2019 17:25

Yes the company was making huge profits because it was cutting corners left, right and centre.
The worker were probably on low wages.
