Hi
Just wondering if any Irish teachers are on here? Could a teacher with SEN qualification from UK get employment in an Irish school? Or would they only accept the Irish qualification?
Thank you

Bumping for you

Are you talking about Primary school? If so, you need Irish to teach in a primary school, even if you’re in SEN.

As in you need to pass an exam (oral and written) if you didn’t do your degree in Ireland.

Argh! An exam in Irish, I mean.

But teachers from other countries can teach in Irish schools if they are hired. We had a Scottish trained teacher for a few years.

Hey- no I’m trained in secondary school and have the Hdip. Haven’t taught in Ireland in years but recently got a postgrad in SEN from UK

@Exitstrategist I don’t know the answer to your question but there is a very active forum on Facebook called Voice for Teachers which answers many similar questions. A lot of posts from expat teachers and UK trained teachers wondering about procedures to be able to teach in Ireland. It’s worth having a search through past posts on there & if nothing comes up you can msg the admins to posts question for you.
The Teaching Council determines if your qualifications are acceptable so it is worth getting in touch with them too.
Good luck
