Hi. DD12 wants to stay up watching TV til 11pm and then read for a while.

I said 10/10.30 at the latest. She thinks it's unfair since she's on school holidays and doesn't have to get up for school. I still have to get up it work though.

Who's right?

Err 11pm sounds kinda late but thats probably cus i can't stay awake till that long! I would say till 9 for tv then 45mins to 1 hour for reading/wind down time in bedroom.

I think by 12 and in the holidays she can self regulate. Just because she wants to stay up doesn't mean you have to.
Obviously if you notice her being more tired and cranky then you can put a stop to the late nights but with teenage years coming up you are going to have much bigger battles to fight so best to let her see you being reasonable on something that doesn't seem that big a deal.

It's not a question of "who's right".

You're her mother.
You work.
You think it's too late (I agree).

So how about 10pm Sunday to Friday. 10.30 fri/sat

For what's it worth, I think those timings are way too late and should be 9.30 latest.

Thanks everyone. Glad to see I'm not totally unreasonable and Avebury I take your point. I might come to a compromise with DD.
