How many kids is the norm in your area?

Seems to be 3 around here. Just curious :)

Average 3 but a lot of 2's and 4's... I know of quite a few parents with one child too - as i think of it i know a lot of one child families.

On our cul de sac, we have
1 x 1
2 x 2
1 x 3
2 x 4.

On dd's class (junior inf) it seems to be mainly 2 or 3.

Appears to be mostly 2. I don't know if that's average or if it's just the people I know and school mums etc but mostly 2 children per family.

I'm from a huge family (double digits!!) and hated it growing up...i've never met anyone with even half the number of kids as i have siblings.. And i'm still in my thirties (only just). You would have to have a seriously good income to raise a large family in ireland today.

I only know 1 one child family and I don't think they intend to stay that way forever. I agree that costs are very high these days but wonder if there is still a cultural tendency towards more than 2 (in some parts of the country)?

Mostly two but three isn't unusual

There are quite a lot of elderly couples that live on our street and most of the ones I chat to have 4/5 obviously now adult, children.

I think 2 in this area. I know 3 1-child families who intend to stay that way - age-related in 2 cases and in the other they're just happy with 1.

We're sticking with 2 - economic factors are definitely one of the main considerations as DS2 is starting crèche in a couple of weeks so that will be costing us €2k a month for the 2 of them . We're basically going to be living on beans for the next few years and I don't think the budget is going to change anything for us.

Mawsy on the budget, am I right in thinking that all proposed changes would come into affect September 2017? Creche fees are blistering here aren't they. One of ours started school this year and it's made a big difference.

A lot of 3s around here as well. Live in quite a "wealthy" area (though it's all relative I know).

Mostly 2 children, though some 3's and 1's though a few 4's and 5's but they're not the norm and you'd be amazed at some of the snidey comments people have made when they heard someone was pregnant a 4th or 5th time, it does seem to be frowned upon.

I'm one of 9 which put me right off having a large family, I've got 2 children who are young adults in college, 3 of my sisters have 2 also, one sibling had 3, another has 6, 3 siblings have 1.

It's 2 and then 4 around here. Very few with 3 for some reason.

Amber - I grew up in a very large family too. We might be sisters!

Mostly 1 or 2 around here. A middling income place, although thinking about it in the poorer part of town 3 or 4 is the norm.
