adapting a crib?

I am thinking of buying this crib, and adapting one side so that the top and sides, rather than being totally fixed, attach with poppers/press studs/a zip.

Am pretty handy with a sewing machine, thinking if I use very strong metal press studs, a few of them, or zips, could have the side sort of dropable so it can go up against our bed, with the side down to scoop baby over to feed in the night, and back up when done/if baby on own in room. The side is not supportive in any way as ar as I can see, the dowel at the top and bottom are supporting the frame and the base.

Am I totally mad - would it be unsafe? really struggling to find a crib with one side that comes down fully to put up against our bed, but which has the option of putting the side up as and when we need to - all the ones I have found seem to be around the 200 mark, which is a bit much.

Already have a massive cot bed for baby's room, this would be for our room until baby is able to sit up, and because of space needs to be crib dimensions rather than a full size cot.

Any advice - or anyone that has one and thinks it could work?
