Cots and beds

This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

"my first ready bed" v ready bed?

Need to get something for ds(3) to sleep in at realtives as he has really outgrown his travel cot.

There seems to be 2 different types of bed - "my first ready bed2 which has inflatable bits down the sides, and a normal ready bed which doesnt.

Can anyone reccomend either of these or something else for him to sleep in?

Many Thanks

We used a my first ready bed for ds probably when he was younger than 3. Tbh although i think the first one is meant to be up to 5, it would be a very small 5 year old.

in your case I would get a normal one which will last longer both in terms of length and character on it (DS had a Thomas the Tank Engine one).

My ds loves his my first ready bed but has just about outgrown it at 4.

I agree the next size up would probably be better.

Only thing is he is a bit of a wriggler - was wondering whether the inflatable sides might stop him from ending upside down and back to front

We got full size ready beds for ds1 and dd. They were fine, but the dc tend to roll out of them. They stay in the blanket, but end up lying on the floor. The inflatable bits sound good, but I find it's rarely economical to get the junior-size version of things.

DS1 just got a ready bed for his fourth birthday. It says on the box from age six but on the instructions and on the web site description from age three. Whilst he has not used it to actually sleep in yet he loves to play in it! I can't see why it wouldn't be ok for a three-year old although one or two reviews do say it can flip if they roll right into the edge of it IYSWIM.

DS has full size ready bed. Have stopped using it and bought a simple camping bed and a sleeping bag. Went to check on him once too often and found him doing a turtle impression!(him under bed) also ours was very 'nylon'!

Spiderman one free to a good home here!!

ds outgrew his my first readybed before he was 3 (he's tall for his age), they really are quite small.
i wouldn't have another readybed, the covers are nasty nylon and very sweaty, but also quite thin, plus you have the problem that they can flip the whole thing over as the covers are attached to the airbed bit.
tbh you would be better with a junior airbed and sleeping bag/duvet.

something like this, you can also get kids sized square bags.

Ds (3.6) used a My First Ready Bed when staying at a friend's house recently.

When we came to bed he was lying on the floor having completely wriggled out - was quite happily asleep though.
