Guard rail or gate on bedroom door? Advice needed!

I've been putting off putting my DD (2yrs old) into a cot bed as long possible as I'm sure she will be the sort that will climb out, however, tonight she tried to climb out of the cot so it's time to convert it into a cotbed. However, I've heard that guard rails that fit cotbeds are hard to find. My husband wants to put a gate on the bedroom door, but I am struggling with that concept as I can't bear the thought of her stood at the gate and wailing at bedtime, I want her to be able to come into our room if she needs us. Any advice on people who have gone through this stage? Would you go for a guard rail or the gate?

I had both... I got a guard rail from Argos - can't remember the make - but it fits under the mattress on her cot bed. She was able to quickly nip round it. I also have a stairgate on her door but this is because it's not possible to actually fit a stair gate at the top of our stairs and they are scarily steep (and made of stone). If you're happy for her to get out of bed and come to your room, though, I'd say the guard would do. If you like, I'll nip upstairs and check the make?

I nipped up anyway. It's a Tomy one. It's fabric over a metal frame and can fold down. I only had for one side as her cotbed is against the wall.

I didnt have a guard rail. Bed v.close to ground I and none of mine have fallen out anyway.

I didnt put a gate on bedroom door because that means you cant close the door and that can cause other problems in a noisy house like mine.

We cut the door in half and make a stable door thingy. We did that in the kitchen because I always liked the door closed at night in case of fires.

Always worked well for us.
