Cots and beds

This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

Cots that can survive terrible twos

My toddler wakes all through the night, and while he doesn’t cry or seem particularly upset he will kick and rattle his cot for hours. He has already managed to kick through the slats on one side and we’ve turned it around so the open side now faces the wall to keep him secure. It’s a fairly basic John Lewis one and I’m sure the other side doesn’t have much life left in it. I don’t think he’s ready for a bed as he would maraud around the house at all hours and we have a young baby I don’t want to disturb. Has anyone had experience of this and can advise any deterrents, and/or a good sturdy cot brand that he can’t destroy. We’ve tried ignoring him, going in and telling him to stop and trying to distract him with toys/ listening to Tonies in his bed.

Honestly, just put him in a single bed or a mattress on the floor and a baby gate on the door. He can roll around and sleep when he's ready without charging around the house.

No experience on this at all but our cot is Boori and it’s VERY sturdy

Kids should be in a bed as soon as they are big enough to be able to climb out or break a cot. Put a stair gate in the door if you need to keep him safely in his room
