17 months too young for a toddler bed?

Looking to find out when people moved their toddler from a cot to a toddler bed.
Unfortunately the cot we have is a regular cot and not a ‘cot bed’ which converts into a bed when you take the sides off. I didn’t realise there was a difference when I bought our cot.
My 17m old has started waking around 3/4am and wont go back to sleep. She also refuses to nap in her cot for longer than about 30 mins, yet will nap on the sofa or in our bed for 2+ hours. She has previously slept well in her cot from 7pm-6am so I’m now wondering has she just grown out of it?
My worry with a toddler bed is that she will get out in the night if she wakes/in the morning and start rummaging around her bedroom/pulling down furniture etc.
Advice appreciated please!

We moved my little girl into her toddler floor bed at 18 months. It's a double so we can get in with her when she wakes at 5am and she will sleep through till 7. She doesn't get out at all (even though she can), when she wakes she shouts for us. I really love it and it works well for her.

That’s really great to hear, glad it worked so well for you! Thanks for replying. Her bedroom is big enough for a double so perhaps that’s the way to go!

DS went into a normal bed with a guard at 18 months because he climbed out of the cot. You do need to fully baby proof the room, anchor any furniture to the walls, sort any wires and remove any hazards. If they can open their bedroom door then also make sure you put a stairgate on it because it’s far too young to be moving around at night unsupervised. Toddler beds are a silly waste of money though, I’d only bother if it’s your existing cot or they have a very small box room. Just get a normal single, or maybe even a double if there’s room and then you have the option of getting in with them.
