Hi I am a first time mum and my baby is quite fussy when it comes to sleeping he is 4 months and 3 weeks.

he stopped sleeping in his next to me around 3 months

preferring his baby nest in his cot but it made me quite anxious and he was getting bigger so I took his baby nest away.

however it’s kinda been a struggle with the cot I have a breathable blanket however he just kicks It away in his sleep and ends up waking up in the middle of the night because he is cold so I changed it for his cot duvet but I have tucked it right under the mattress and made sure it is not any longer than him however I don’t want to put his safety at risk

also I would love an owlet but that isn’t an option for me right now financially I cannot afford it.

Hello! The 4 month stage is notorious for bad sleep, and it can be exhausting for us mamas.

The cot blanket isn't safe sleep at this stage, and shouldn't be used before one. They're not breathable enough, and unfortunately you risk suffocation if it goes over the face. Tucked in actually increases the risk I think, as babies are wiggly little things! If he moves down, he would be in danger.

A baby sleeping bag is a great alternative, and you can get cheap enough ones in some supermarkets.

I hope sleep gets better for you soon.

I would remove the blanket. Too much of a risk for me. You can get baby sleeping bags that help keep them warm while being safe and most kids love the feel of them, very comforting. My first DS wore one until he was 2!

I think sleeping bags are your best option.

Actual cot duvets shouldn't be used before 1. Tbh even then they're pointless because they wriggle out too much so it's more like 2 years they should be used.

Agree with the sleeping bag suggestion - they are great as the baby can’t kick them off but can still move around. My son used them until he was 2.5 when we then moved to a duvet as he was too tall for the sleeping bags

Yes to the sleeping bags, I always downsized them to make sure the arm and neck holes weren't too big.

It is good that you don't allow baby to sleep in the nest, those are so dangerous and not for sleep.
