Cots and beds

This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

What sleep setup should I have for my 7mo

DD is about to turn 7 months. She was in next to me crib until about a month ago when she was able to crawl onto our bed. We were worried about her falling so current setup is crib beside our bed. However she often ends up in our bed because when we put her in the crib she just pulls herself up to stand. She settles a lot easier when we can be beside her but that's really tricky with the crib. We don't mind her being in our bed but for naps when we aren't in the bed with her we have to watch the baby monitor like a hawk and run up to get her as soon as she wakes so she doesn't crawl off the bed. What should we do?

  1. Let her sleep with us in our bed and get her quickly when she wakes up from naps.
  2. Persevere with the crib
  3. Take side off crib (it concerts to toddler bed) and keep it beside our bed. She'll probably be able to crawl into our bed but perhaps will slow her down before crawling off edge of bed?
  4. Get a floor bed so it's easier to lie beside her to settle her and she doesn't have far to fall if she wakes up. Downside is will have to fully baby proof room or else still be vigilant with getting her once she wakes.
  5. Any other suggestions?

At six months old we moved DT’s into cots in their own bedrooms. Better for all of us.

We don't feel ready to have her in her own room yet and are happy to share at least until 12 months, especially as she is exclusively BF and still waking a couple of times in the night for a feed, we don't feel ready to move her into her own room yet unless I was able to sleep in with her.

Honestly the only safe option here is to persevere with the crib.

The crib.

Next to me forever - you can have it open at night and close it when she's napping alone

Thank you for your helpful suggestion. Will definitely look into that!
