Cots and beds

This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

What to get for baby to sleep in?

Ok second time round, due next year. For DC1 we had a next2me, a bassinet for downstairs and a baby nest (supervised naps only). I didn't really rate any of them so I've sold it all.

I ended up cosleeping with DC1 and it worked fine, I'm ok to do the same again but I'd like to get something just in case DC2 is able to sleep independently (I know unlikely, but let me dream 😅).

I really don't want to have to lower DC2 into anything, even the N2M was a struggle as I have back issues and seemingly from DC1 am just a bit crap at doing it.

The options I've looked at are:

  • sidecar the crib bed we have to our bed. This would be ideal as it'd last over a year but space is limited and the cot would need to be next to a window to fit which I don't think is advised. Also not sure there are raisers high enough so it might be a DIY bodge.
  • Babybay, these look great, but they're not massive and I'm worried they can be grown out of quite quickly.
  • travel cot, one that's on the floor like the Tutti Bambini Cozee. I've read that this is a good hack especially when you travel and having a play space would also be handy for protecting baby from a handsy toddler. But I would have to get out of bed in the night, which is a PITA.

Have I missed anything? Are there other options?
