Smallish flat - bedside cot AND Moses basket ?

Hi there,

We have a relatively small flat - having been sold on the benefits of a “next to me” type crib - my question is do we really then need to be buying a Moses basket for the daytime for our living space (limited), if the regular cot is relatively close by (albeit in a separate room) ? Would be looking at the larger moses baskets if so (Snuzbaskit or Mokee) which seem much more comparable in size to cots than traditional ones …

We have purchased the Nuna Triv next as a pram and their lay-flat bassinet has technically NOT approved for overnight sleeping ….

Trying to avoid extra equipment where possible - I imagine we will be buying a baby bouncer and play mat , but obviously no good for daytime napping in those….

Any advice welcomed !

We had a small flat and had a next to me in the bedroom and a Moses basket in the sitting room. Given you're supposed to be in the same room when they're sleeping until 6 months, I seemed a no brainer to us for daytime naps and the evenings when we wanted to eat dinner/watch TV etc while DS dozed.

Mine hated the moses basket so we just popped him in the snuzpod instead and he was fine in that. We were in a hotel room for first 4 months so the snuzpod was a godsend

I wouldn't bother if I was you xx

Haha - I’m getting all sides here - hard to know what’s best ! Got a bargain second hand price for a fab looking Mokee woolnest that would NOT be unattractive in the living room …. It was more if everyone thought this was a total waste , and thought “of course the cot is fine in the daytime” - maybe I’d skip …. But that doesn’t seem to be the consensus? :)

It really depends on how strictly you want to follow the safe sleep guidelines - if you want to stick to them, you should be in the room for all naps so you'll spend a lot of time hanging out in the bedroom without a Moses basket. But everybody makes their own assessment of risk and what they're comfortable with.

We didn't bother with the Moses basket and definitely wouldn't bother in your shoes. You can just move the next to me into the living room or wherever. That's what we did upstairs, and used the bassinet bit of the pram for downstairs

I’d hold off until baby is here, and see how you get on.

We didn’t bother with both and we live in a house.

TakeMe2Insanity · 19/11/2023 12:42

We live in a large house. For dc1 used a moses basket beside bed and used the bassinet (while attached to the pram) for naps while we were in which ever room. We never left unattended and never left over night. I don’t see why you need all 3.

Although not for overnight sleeping I'd assume that the pram bassinet would be fine to use for daytime naps.

mynameiscalypso · 19/11/2023 13:00

I will add that we were going to use pram bassinet but it was a bit unwieldy and I was worried we were going to end up breaking it by constantly removing the bassinet. That was the main reason we got a Moses basket because it just made our lives easier but you may be less lazy than us!

Moses baskets seemed unnecessary for me. Both mine were in the snuzpod for overnight sleeps and then either contact napped (yay) or slept in the pram for naps. If you can have the pram in the flat easily I wouldn't bother with a third thing, you'll be overrun with baby crap in no time. Another option is some sort of Sleepyhead type thing. I know they're not recommended for overnight but think it's fine for daytime. You could have it on the sofa and pop the baby in it. Awaiting the haters coming along and saying sleepyheads are the devils work 😂
