Cots and beds

This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

Baby Bjorn light, Phil and Teds traveller, or Tutti Bambini cozee go - advice?

Trying to decide what travel cot to get - our baby is nearly 5 months and we are going away this summer a few times. We are planning a couple of long weekends by train as well as a trip when we will have a car, so I've been looking for lightish ones that would be possible to carry. I also want it to last - the baby is tall - and to be comfortable! Bassinet mode would be nice for this summer to save our backs and she is used to sleeping in a next to me.
Think I've narrowed it down to these three, does anyone have experience of them? Or recommend a different one entirely! I'm particularly after experience of the tutti bambini one, as I've not been able to find many reviews.
Here are the pros/cons I've got so far:
Baby bjorn - comfy, easy to put up/down, but no zip in the side and no bassinet
Phil and teds - lightest, zip down side and bassinet mode, but mattress is self-inflating, and cot doesn't look sturdiest
Tutti bambini - cheapest, has zip and bassinet, but not sure how comfy the mattress is or whether it packs down small enough

Also seen the micralite and the little life arc... any thoughts?

What did you end up deciding? Also thinking of the cozego but same questions about how comfy mattress is & portability!

We ordered the cozee go but ended up returning it because it was a bit bulky (both when up and in the bag) and I found the mechanism for putting it up a bit fiddly (you have to clip these brittle plastic bits over the side bars when expanded). Now we have the baby bjorn which is expensive but great! The mattress is definitely comfier, and it is much more portable (we've taken it on the train a couple of times).
The cozee go is big, so would last for a long time, and would double up well as a playpen I think. The mattress is ok but the baby bjorn one is superior. The baby bjorn is also a dream to put up/down and I think the smaller footprint is more practical for squeezing into rooms when we're away!

Thank you! This.is.SUPER helpful. I looked at the baby Bjorn but thought the lack.of side access would make things tricky (baby will be 8 months when we start using it). I just want small and comfy, so hard!

Baby bjorn is definitely small and comfy. My baby is almost 8 months now and sleeps well in it - I have to feed her to sleep and transfer, which I thought would be difficult (especially as she's a real chunk) but it's fine. I actually don't think a zip in the side would make it any easier, unless you want to be able to lie next to baby for a long period.

I am looking at getting the Baby Bjorn or the Tutti bambini for my 2.5 year old, who is average height…do you think she’d be able to climb out (though she will be in a sleeping bag so would more have to just tip or flip over the sides) or would be comfortable? Would really appreciate your insight @gibberingwreck!

Hmm, I don't have much experience of toddlers as my nearly-8-month-old is my first. Check out the dimensions online to see what you think of mattress size, the tutti bambini is quite a lot bigger so would last longer (but is a bit less comfy - depends what she's used to). The tutti bambini was also fractionally taller but I think both would be hard to climb out of because of the sloped sides (and the baby bjorn has a solid base which makes it pretty much untippable).

Thank you that’s really helpful, they all look so flimsy online wit the mesh sides that it’s good to know it’s not easily tipped!

Inyournewdress · 17/10/2023 17:48

Hi sorry to bother you but I was wondering, do you think the tipping factor is really in favour of the Bjorn…ie. the tutti could be tipped?

Inyournewdress · 18/10/2023 19:27

Well I’ve opted for the baby Bjorn hope it will be ok!
I was actually going to get a completely different one, the Maxi Cosi Swift, where the mattress isn’t on the floor, but my daughter is 100g off the upper weight limit for that one! Bjorn is only one I recall seeing with no upper weight limit.

gibberingwreck · 20/10/2023 19:06

Great, hope it works for you! We've been very happy with it. Yes the solid base of the baby bjorn makes tipping virtually impossible if the toddler is standing on it, whereas the tutti bambini had a flexible base so I think would be slightly more tippable. And yeah no weight limit is very handy (I have even squeezed in myself 😂).

Thanks! We’re on holiday now with the Baby Bjorn and so far so good, so thanks for your tips no pun intended!
