Cots and beds

This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

Cot with a side door so I can put the baby in from the side?

My 1 year old seems to always wake when I place him in the cot, as the drop is so far from my arms to the mattress.

I looked at buying a cot with a drop side but they all seem to only go down a few inches, which doesn't help when the Mattress is on the lowest setting.

Soo I wondered, is there a cot I can buy with side doors so I can slide my baby in from my arms?

I hope so. This would solve our issues. I feed to sleep then have to get my husband to transfer to cot because I simply can't put toddler all that way down without giving the sensation of being dropped at the end which causes a wake up.

Nexttome beds are perfect!!!! You can zip the side down and have it right next to your bed! You can get them from £100

At 1 year I would just ditch cot and use toddler bed or side off the cot if easier. I know 1 year can be different months, but Ds by 16 months was climbing out of his cot so had to take the side off soon after anyway for safety.

By the time DC2 came along, we had one of those plastic toddler steps in the bathroom for toddler DC1. I got another for DC2's room! The extra height meant I could lean much further over and put DC2 down more easily

I’ve never seen anything like this but after a quick google they do exist - try for “accessible cots” or swing door cots. Have seen photos of cots suitable for wheelchair users for example.
showing on Pinterest so you’d have to have a look around

The next to me forever seems to be deeper than the new born ones

On the other hand - my advice which you’re welcome to ignore(!) would be to work on baby going down to sleep independently as well as will make it a lot easier in long run and needing a cot like this would be expensive for a short term solution maybe
