Hi mums, in a dilemma can't decide which style of Moses basket to get. Traditional or modern. From your experience, do babies prefer one to the other.
Please see attached image and tell me, A or B
Thank you.

It's purely an aesthetic choice on your part. Babies don't give a tiny rat's ass unfortunately. We have a lovely next-to-me style crib that's just become a place to put bottles of water, my phone and some muslins. My 8 week old baby made it clear from day one that as far as he's concerned it's a torture chamber.

I wasted 4 weeks trying to get him to sleep in it to the detriment of everyone's sanity. We co-sleep now and we all actually get some sleep.

I'm typing this as he lies on my chest to settle after a night feed. The next-to-me crib is still valiantly beside us with muslins and haakaas tossed in there out the way.

We tell the relative who bought it for us that he loves it, of course.

My DC outgrew their moses basket within weeks and much preferred either my bed or their bigger cot.

Glad I borrowed the basket (new mattress)!

Thanks ladies.
I've already bought a next to me. Thought it would be handy as I plan to Breastfeed.
I was looking at Moses baskets to keep in the lounge for daytime naps.
After reading all your comments, I'm wondering if I'll be wasting my money on one.
But then what will baby sleep in during the day, downstairs?.

It can be really hard to say what your baby will or won't like or what will end up being worth your money or a waste of money.

My experience is that I breastfeed and co-sleep and it works like a dream. My baby only now at 8 weeks is starting to accept being put down on his back at all without me. So he'll have 20 minute stints on his back on a playmat with one of those wooden frames with toys hanging that he's now batting and kicking at merrily. This is when I do a mad dash to get basic things done around the house. Day time naps are on me, in the car, or on walks in the pram.

I lower my standards and accept a lot of help and my partner takes over what I can't get done anymore. Takes a lot of team work. If everyone is fed, well rested, and clean then we're winning.

Until literally this past week my baby would scream within 3 minutes of being put down anywhere that wasn't in my arms. If you want anything done you might find a sling works. Or maybe your baby will happily be put down to sleep in a Moses basket in the day. You don't know until the time comes and your baby will call the shots.

I've just given in to having this little man glued to me. We rode out the fourth trimester together and now I'm starting to see him coming out the other end, content to be put down for brief periods at a time. It gets better every day.

In Scotland we get the free baby box that also comes with a mattress to provide a safe place for baby to nap. So that saves money. Not that my wee man will sleep in it of course Hmm

I've got a travel cot set up downstairs, rather than buying a short lived Moses basket. Will get used throughout the first few years. An alternative is to use the pram carrycot if it is safe x

Honestly in the time that DS would've fitted in a Moses basket when he napped in the next to me I was more than happy to have a little rest on the bed! He always preferred contact naps and did a lot of day sleeping in a soft sling

Thanks ladies, you've all given me great tips and a insight to what I can expect.

When pregnant with my youngest I was given a Moses basket the same style as B. I really like the look of them, however, when I set it up in the living room on its stand, I realised I wouldn't be able to easily see over the sides to see the baby. It was only a minor thing but it bugged me enough to pass that Moses basket on and buy a regular one with the lower sides.

That being said, I probably could have got away without a Moses basket at all, but didn't know that until she came along and revealed her napping preferences, lol.

I like A but I'm not keen on baby being so covered up so I would probably take the apron off.

I have a 7 week old and have found it really helpful having a Moses basket on the living room floor, she occasionally naps in it and it's nice to have somewhere secure to put her down whilst I make a cup of tea! It's a very basic one we got second hand the ones you are looking at look lovely Smile

A purely on looks.
