Nursery furniture recommendations

Baby is a month old and in a next to the bed crib. Plan to keep him in our room until he is at least 6 months old.

Need nursery furniture. Room is freshly painted and carpeted (think beigey - Joa's white) with built in wardrobe.

I need a cot (possibly a cot bed) and drawers or changing top drawers but don't think changing table is essential.

Any recommendations for affordable and good quality nursery furniture? I either want something fairly affordable that looks good or I don't mind paying a bit more if it's going to last a few years eg we could keep the drawers I expect but not even sure how long they stay in a cot?!

Obviously I have had a quick look at the usuals like mamas and papas or silver cross.

We like wood so maybe a wooden set rather than white / painted mdf type.

Ultimately I don't really have a budget so it's a matter of whether it is worth it.

Just get a normal chest of drawers as the "nursery" ones are the same but with a lip at the top for a change mat and are often much more expensive.

We had a lovely, expensive pine cot bed (Mamas and Papas) for #1 then a cheaper oak effect (Obaby Grace) one for #2 and tbh they both ended up with teeth marks, scuffs and gouges from toys/cups being launched around as they got older... Both lasted from 4 months to 5 years and were passed on to a local baby bank as they were still fit for purpose and scrubbed up well.

We never bothered with a changing area - found it easier to just slide a mat around tbh - but you can buy a cot top changer which just slots on/off.

We have the IKEA range.

The IKEA cot bed with drawers underneath has been good so far, drawers handy storage. Converts to toddler bed. Bought mattress elsewhere.

Also have the IKEA hemnes drawer set, the larger 8 drawer set. We use a changing Mat ontop still (Ds is 14 months so lots of use). It’s a good size and fits all his reusable nappies, clothing, clothes that are too big, toys that are bit too small size wise (gifts), etc. Seems sturdy still and isn’t nursery only.

Yes to getting normal drawers. DD1 stayed in a cot for 2 months and DD2 never went in one so honestly I would think about waiting a bit to see if you end up cosleeping.

I’ve heard of people keeping kids in cots up to 3 but I can’t imagine that. By just after two both of mine were out of high chairs, potty trained and in big girl beds. It all depends on the child you get and how you parent.

We’ve got a very nice mamas and papas cot, it wasn’t overly expensive and good quality. I teamed that with IKEA white drawers and a cube as I’ve found them to really versatile in using to store clothes, blankets, toys, as a bookshelf and other random baby paraphernalia and will continue to be useful as DS gets older

Reading back - mine weren't in cots until 5 years.. the sides came off and they were used as beds at 2 years and 14 months respectively 🤣

IKEA! Dd has the Småstad range and it’s amazing. Really heavy, good quality and tons of options to fit in her room. It’ll last up until teens.

IKEA Hemnes drawers & a John Lewis cot bed.

The cot bed is in our room still (he’s 6.5 months)

I wasn’t referring specifically to you but I read a thread in the last week or so when people were talking about keeping the bars up on cotbed until 5 years old. I can’t imagine my 5 year old fitting into the cotbed but she is tall for her age.

Thank you for all these.

I'm liking the Bambino Mio ones.
