Cots and beds

This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

Bedside crib too small, what to do next...

My DS is nearly seven months now, and rather long for his age, but still sleeping in the Snuzpod attached to our bed. - We have a cot bed (140cm long) in his nursery, which is sturdy (read: heavy), and used for daytime naps.

I am not keen on moving him to his cot bed for the night yet - because I love watching him snooze - but mostly because he is suffering from moderate to severe eczema, and we spend a good portion of the night keeping his scratch mitten-ed hands away from his face so he does not rub it sore. Plus, I still breastfeed him twice a night.

Any suggestions on what we should do next? Move him to the cot bed in his room and accept we will have to trips back and forth? Get another, slightly larger crib we can leave in our room, or at the bedside? Bite the bullet and move his cot bed into our room, reshuffling the furniture?

I just can't make my mind up... Looking for some different takes (or maybe even product recommendations)

Are there even any bedside cribs that are larger than Snuzpod&co that are really for 0-6 months?

I would buy a small cot, put the side down and have it next to your bed just like the snuzpod. If you can fit the cot bed in, just use that though. Save a few quid.

I would (and have) brought the cot bed into your room once the baby has grown out told the crib.

I can survive any number of wakings in the night as long as I don't have to get out of bed. Having the cot set up as a cosleeper means I can deal with it all without my feet hitting the floor.

We put the cot bed in our room, but you could get a mini cot (60x120cm, so smaller than the cotbed) and use that in your room instead. IKEA do a couple for £40-70, and there are unofficial tips online for taking the side off and attaching it to the main bed if you wanted the sidecar style.

Thanks everyone for your ideas, they really helped.

Oh @DuvetCaterpillar I think you might have given me exactly what I needed, an Ikeahacker project, and a budget-friendly, workable solution! I might even be able to get a used one (and a new mattress) - thank you!
