How old is too old for 2nd hand moses basket?

Evening!

I'm still not entirely sure if I want to use a moses basket at all, but my parents and SIL have both offered theirs. If we used them obviously we'd get a new mattress, but I'm unsure about the basket itself - is there likely to be any issue with degradation of the materials, having ingrained mustiness / mould that can't be cleaned out where they've been in storage, or them not meeting modern regulations?

One is 35 yrs old and one is 10 yrs old. I feel bad saying no to people about things but when it comes to things like sleep and travel safety I'm also not willing to take risks. Would we we better getting a new one if we want to use one?

Thanks :)

Unfortunately using a moses basket that old is unsafe as the safety regulations have changed . Your babys safety is more important than peoples feelings. If im correct the most current safety standard for a moses basket is bs en 1466: 2014

The current standard for a standard cot is bs en 716 2017 (i was gifted a used cotbed bs en 716 1996 but unfortunately I have had to buy a new one that is more upto date)
Good luck

Honestly I’d say no- my Moses basket cost me £40 new. If it was a year or so, with a new mattress maybe. But I assume it was stored in a loft, cellar or garage etc, given the number of years.
