Cots and beds

This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

Toddler bed guard for a double bed.

We've found ourselves in a situation whereby our toddler flatly refuses to sleep in his cot, favouring kipping in-between mum and dadConfused. As lovely as this is, us parentals are missing out on nighttime spoonage and a decent sleep. We thought to solve this we'd buy a toddler bed guard, but I'm struggling to find one suitable for a double bed.

We're in a long slow process of moving house so our little tinker is currently without a bedroom otherwise the cot to bed transition mission would have been well under way.

Is there such a thing as a bed guard for a double bed? Can anyone advise?

I'm also struggling to find one for a double bed. All the ones I've seen also tend not to be suitable for under 1yr.. why?
My DD is 5 months and struggle to put her in the next to me cot without her waking every hour to be soothed back to sleep.
Please let me know if you have find a solution

put the bed against the wall ?

Believeitornot · 05/03/2018 19:30

Roll up a towel or two and put it under the sheet.

Just get a normal one, I don't understand why it has to be a specific double bed one. Just get a normal one from Argos and it will work fine. Surely the bed isn't any longer than a single?

We have a baby Dan one that we use on a double bed. I can't remember now if it was, advertised as compatible but it works. It has a flat panel that slides under the mattress then the guard clips in. We just clip it on nights one of the dc end up in our bed (every night these days).

When I first read this post I thought what a good idea, a bed guard for a double bed.....then read @Keepingupwiththejonesys post and realised that in fact a double bed is no longer than a single haha, but if OP is meaning a bed guard that goes the full length of an adult bed then that would be a great invention, I could really do with one

We have this one above and we use it on a double bed. It says 18months but we have used it since my lb was about 10 months he is now 2

I used a lindam fabric bed guard on a king size bed from when my youngest was a year old, never had a problem.

We had a great wooden one which worked even with quite a deep mattress (though not with our new crazily deep mattress- so double check the height)

Sturdy enough that I ended up leaning against it most nights- just tucks under the mattress.

Got ours here

Pool noodle under the sheet.

It's not the length of the bed guard that's the issue, google suggest they're for a single mattress, only designed to lend themselves to a single mattress width??

Your posts would suggest otherwise, so thanks everyone... I do however like the idea of putting the bed to the wall as a quick solution! Smile

Thanks guys...

You need to check how they are secured. Some have tubing or struts that go right under the bed and “grab” the other side to stay secure so the width of the bed is key; they won’t work with a double. Some work well with a wooden bed frame and just use the lip of the frame to stay secure; they would work if your double bed is a wooden frame. You may be a little stuck with a double divan.
