Cots and beds

This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

Bedside crib (bednest) do I need to get rid of bedside drawers?

I'm currently preparing my bedroom for my newborn. I'm keen on the idea of a bedside crib. My room isn't massive, and there is limited space bedside. Do I need to get rid of my bedside drawers with a bedside crib? All the pictures show the crib attached above the pillow height. So I'm thinking, yes, probably! But if anyone has had one, can you tell me how they have worked for you?

I could go for something that goes in the bed. It's just me and the newborn, in a double. But I like the space Grin and these appeal more than anything else I've looked at.

Thank you!

Can you attach it sort of further down the bed a bit? Or, just for the time being, swap the bed around so that the headboard isn't against the, wall (if it is and that makes, sense). I think drawers are really handy to stick stuff on.top of and also the baby will presumably only be in with you for 6 months or so

I could, but then I think it would defeat the purpose of it being a bedside crib?!

Can't move the bed out, due to the small room! Wouldn't be able to get around the bed.

It isn't an issue not having the drawers. I'm completely redoing the room, so whatever I want can be worked out. I'm just wondering if anyone has had one, has it worked, or did you have to get rid of the bedside drawers?!

I'll probably buy one set, for the opposite side, then have a shelf above the bed for glasses/drink at night etc. with a clip on lamp to the bed frame.

I'd just prefer the aesthetics of having drawers by my bedside! And the ease of use for storage!

Will miss my knicker drawer! Grin

Maybe I should just get a single bed Grin

I had built in bedside drawers so couldn't get rid of them. But it worked fine just to have the bedside cot I had (cosatto close to me) pushed up next to the drawers. I think it actually means baby is about the right place for breastfeeding whereas if you put them level with the top of your bed you would have to move them more for each feed.

Having said that I don't know if different cots/cribs have physical reasons why they have to be at the top of the bed.

Nooooo - don't get a single bed! It would be like a nun's room!!
