Hi, finally decided to buy some bunk beds. can grown ups sleep in them? M and S non commital (for safety reasons... etc). I dn't mean all the tie - the bunk beds are for my kids... but is it safe for an adult to sleep in the top bunk? I have no idea... anyone with them know?

Not got those bunks, but other bunks and DH has slept in the top bunk before now when the children having been playing musical beds overnight. And he's 6ft4 Grin

Is there definitely no weight limit?

I asked. They just said they don't sell bunk beds too adults, but did not say why. the only limit is a minimum age (for safety I guess). But I'd have thought a child's bunk bed has to accomodate a 15 year old - and they can be full sized surely?

We've got these ones from M&S and an adult can sleep comfortably in the bottom bunk (we've not tried the top). Deliver from M&S is fab too as the build them and position them where you want them in the room, perfect!

would you be frightened the top bunk would collapse?
(two people are coming to stay in my house for a week, the kids are taking my bed, and I've said they can use the - as yet hypothetical - bunk beds).

The general rule with engineered goods is that they have a safety factor of 4 (planes etc are less, like 2 or something, otherwise the extra weight would be too much for it to fly). So whatever the weight of child it's expected to take is, multiply it by four and an adult should be OK to use it.

I might be worried about it overbalancing though, as it will be top heavy.

We have these and they are really sturdy. I've slept on the top bunk with an ill child and was fine for space. We just have the standard mattresses though and comfy they ain't!

Ah. Matresses. The reviews for the M and S ones are v. bad. Should I look elsewhere?

My DC don't complain but I think I may need to upgrade in a couple of years when they are a bit heavier. The beds themselves are great quality though.

I have these with nice pocket sprung mattresses. They are sooo comfy. At least as comfy as my (posh when I bought it) bed.

I got matching drawers and they delivered to the room with one hr delivery slot. Very happy with them.

We've got the same ones as Whatevertheweather. They seem very strong, but no adults have tested out the top bunk! have had more than one child sleep in both bunks on several occasions with no I'll effects.

We got John Lewis mattresses to go with them. Bit of an error there. I bought deep mattresses (thinking they'd be extra comfy) but that makes them a total PITA to change. Would have gone for JL standard depth ones if zi chose again.
