This topic is for discussing cots and beds. We've spent weeks researching and testing newborn beds in real homes with real families.

DC2 is due at the end of August. We will be in our current house until mid-December, when we'll move country (to stay with my parents for a month) and then continent (emigrating for a few years). So, baby will be approx 4 months when we leave.

The cot we had for DD was reclaimed by the relative who had lent it to us (we are now in a different country so can't re-borrow). We had to buy a second cot when we moved country, but it's fairly basic and doesn't have a drop side. Moses basket from DD is missing (2 house moves, one internationally, in 3 years... something always goes missing!) We're also going to need to pack/ship the cot & other baby equipement at our first move (I'm working on the basis that we'll sort something out when at Mum's - there's plenty of people we can borrow from temporarily).

So, I need some advice.
I'm tempted to just get a moses basket and a crib. Get a flat-pack cot (with drop side) and send it with the shipment (will be significantly cheaper to do that than to wait to destination & buy cot there). Sell/donate moses basket & crib before we leave here. Would the crib do us until 4 months?
Or do I just leave the moses basket out of the equation completely - put baby in crib for naps, and if I want/need him/her downstairs then I could use the pram?

Or should I just use the basic cot and forget about moses basket/crib compeltely?

I appear to have lost all ability to make a decision, and DH isn't helping as he can't seem to grasp the difference between crib & cot. Hmm

Any suggestions/ideas? Thanks!

Buy a cheap moses basket (£30 ish in tesco and use it till you move) can't see why you would need a crib as well.

I would just get a cheap crib. A lot of babies who are long outgrown moses basket so early so a crib would be a safer option.

My dd2 is still in a crib at 24 weeks if that's any help? We didn't have a Moses basket this time around - didn't miss it!

Thanks for all the suggestions! It seems like our problem may be solved. Friends have a bedside crib (from her descriptions it sounds like a small co-sleeping crib) that they have offered to lend us. We can then just return it when we leave.

We may pick up a cheap moses basket for downstairs naps etc in the early days, but at least now I don't need to worry about crib/cot options. I'm tempted just to use the pram for downstairs naps...

Dont forget to get a new mattress for the crib but these are cheap enough.
