The Guilt complex when shopping

I'm doing some work on what I'mc alling "the guilt complex" and curious to see whether women - and more predominantly, mums, have a heavier "guilt complex" when out shopping for themselves, than men might have?

I'd be really grateful if you could read my latest blog, take part in the poll on there but also comment back what you think of this as I think there is much more to say on this topic.

As someone who's traded in glasmourous dresses and heels for t-shirts and leggings, I'd be interested to see how many other mums find themselves last on the priority shopping list ;)

When given £200 for the sales (xmas present) the first year I had dd i think i bought one thing for me and spent more than i had been given on stuff for dd. I still wear some of my mat clothes (not that you can tell) and realised that means I've had them for 2.5 years. I have bought very few clothes since having dd and then they are cheap and cause they are desperatly needed. I ahve only have two pairs of jeans.

Definately last, will think nothing of replacing things for dc's whilst clothing myself in cheapest stuff that I can make last as long as possible. Bought myself some pumps this week, nice ones, about the same price as a pair of school shoes, and I am feeling guilty. First pair of shoes I have bought for me in nearly a year. Needless to say, bulk of spending money goes on more clothes for them and extras like treats and days out etc.I get a lot out of seeing dc's not go without in nice clothes - all of my childhood in cousin's cast-off's, so maybe I am used to going without? DH childhood the same as mine in fact much worse. We don't spend a lot on ourselves.

I make sure that I treat myself occasionally as I want to look good and I work damn hard as a mum and in my job. I treat dd too.I also like to buy for our home as then it benefits us both as a family.
