cool! I went into a charity shop the other day to look for more "work clothes" and found practically an entire WARDROBE of M&S suits and smart skirts! I spent sixty quid and came out with 14 items, all M&S etc. I was

Wow bargainous!

Our local ones aren't too good with clothes, there are alot of students and I think the good stuff gets picked off quickly and some of them like Oxfam are really expensive anyways!

Oh and in the same charity shop I got a Maxi Cosi Priory carseat for £7!

I got a John Rocha coat (green, v lovely, extraordinary bumshrinking effect) and a shedload of paperbacks, all pristine.

I also got a handful of Monsoon summer dresses for DD2 some of which still had their tags (a sale hit gone wrong, it looked like - or perhaps a gran with misguided ideas on ages and sizes).

My SIL used to draw up her skirts at my charity shop book habit, her rationale being that people could have wanked before reading. I'm serious.

Mumsnut · 23/02/2010 11:45

What sort of books are you buying?!

snigger · 23/02/2010 11:45

In our closest (small) town, we have a real-life, Acorn Antiques-style charity shop, with old ladies in twin-sets knitting doilies, and knitted bears with bizarrely stitched facial expressions in the window, and a surfeit of brass ornaments.

I love it.

They get all excited about getting your change right.

Ooh, fantastic!

I love charity shops. We have six really good ones in our town.

I bought a Craghoppers jacket for £7 today. It's virtually brand new!

leavingonajetplane · 24/04/2010 21:58

In the middle of big decluttering and have managed to part with my own "sale hits gone wrong" as snigger puts it.

Was lovely to think that someone who suits the stuff better will be chuffed to pick up brand new with tags M&S stuff and I no longer need feel guilty for not getting around to returning it in time.

Love charity shops.

londonmackem · 24/04/2010 22:01

I bought a lovely skirt and 2 pairs of shoes for DD (they are soft as only 8 months so not really shoes). Skirt is a size too small though but I will fit into it by the summer.

CarGirl · 24/04/2010 22:06

Got a pair of lelli kelli sandals pretty much as new for dd4, £1.50

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 24/04/2010 22:11

I've got two bags upstairs waiting to go - I too feel a warm glow imagining how thrilled whoever gets my 'fat' clothes will be.
A bit like that Russell Howard line, where he imagines himself riding in on a white horse, singlehandedly solving world hunger, and shouts 'I'll be back!'

androbbob · 24/04/2010 22:15

I got a Mexx cardi for £3 and two lovely tops for £2 each. Wore the two tops on two recent nights out (with different people) and both sets of people commented on them! didnt have the balls to say they were charity shop finds - just used the 'back of the wardrobe' excuse!

Tortoise · 24/04/2010 22:18

I got a Monsoon dress for 25p in the sale in charity shop. Sold it on Ebay for £16! Was too small for me.

nickschick · 24/04/2010 22:24

a pair of new m&s jeans v comfy -10p

poshsinglemum · 09/05/2010 21:07

Georgeous tea set for £2.00!

expatinscotland · 09/05/2010 21:12

I like vintage dinnerware. All mine comes from charity shops.

Also very cool retro soup bowls with lids.

DanJARMouse · 09/05/2010 21:15

Brand new pair of ankle boots in burgendy colour, from Next I think - £4

H&M top £2

Chunky knitted cardi £4

Wireless keyboard and mouse £5

6 books for DD2 - all new £1.50

DanJARMouse · 09/05/2010 21:18

oh and in return i have dropped off 2 car loads of stuff - brand new wrangler sand coloured boots... fitted when I bought them, worn once, put in back of wardrobe and forgotten about and now dont fit (my feet have grown a half size since having kids!) loads of books that have been read once and left, bnwt trousers and dresses and a lot of kids bits too.... even curtains have gone to the charity shop!

Riponite · 09/05/2010 21:19

Ralph Lauren Black Label diamante and angora cocktail frock, $2.50. I didn't need one (who would?), but now I'm going around saying, guess what I just bought and it just sounds so funny to say. Is actually gorgeous though a little tickly.

Two Jigsaw silk maxi dresses, immaculate, and the coat I almost bought last season but was too miserly to pay out for. Even in the same colour I would have bought.

Riponite · 09/05/2010 21:20

Envious of jumble sale person - I was brought up entirely on jumble sales and prices like that, but they've pretty much gone round here.

TheProvincialLady · 09/05/2010 21:28

I bought a toilet seat from Oxfam last week. £7.99, which was a bargain because it was only a little bit used.

Panic not ladies, it was brand new really. That really would give your SIL something to think about Snigger

nannynobnobs · 09/05/2010 21:41

My mum always finds lovely clothes in charity shops- I can never be bothered to look through the rails though! I do get some nice things for the DDs though.
I bought some lovely Swear shoes for £3 from a car boot, but had to admit to myself they were just a shade too small however I sold them on Ebay for £26.
DD1's school fair was chaos- children running the stalls- they were practically giving the stuff away. I snagged a new handbag, a lovely enamelled belt, a big Treelo toy, a plant and a bag of gorgeous wooden christmas decorations for about two quid.
