I dont know if anyone can help... I've looked at some of the staying warm/ saving money threads and have...

Put a thermal curtain up over the front door(I did ask the landlord)and thermal curtains in lounge still freezing!
Shut curtains, nearly all the time in lounge.
Put big towels at the bottom of the front and back doors to act as draught excluder. Would this work for windows too?

Our bedroom is the only room that seems to stay warm
The storage heaters are very expensive, I guess it levels out as we dont have a gas bill. I am very keen to save money as am pg & every little helps etc.
Have energysaving light bulbs and im looking into candles lighting the lounge.

I am currently wearing layers one with hood &2 pairs of socks-woolly ones still cold.

Anyone got any ideas that could help me?
Could I get an insulation grant in rented acc? I guess it would only benefit the house and most landlord's like that.

Many thanks, sorry for long post.

Lola

Are you on economy 7 with you electric company? I don?t know if all electric companies offer it but I think southern electric do, I thought night storage heaters were supposed to be cheap as you are doing the heating up bit at night when you are paying less, or does it not work like that now?

are oil heaters cheap to run? Yep we have eco 7 would work better if the house was not single glazed the house is always freezing especially at the moment. I dont want to move one bit but running out of options. Will talk to the agent see if anything can be done i dont see how any other tennants lived like this. Sorry am pg and tad hormonal not being warm is not helping.

Don?t worry about being grumpy, don?t blame you?no wonder you don?t want to move especially if you are pregnant!

I think oil filled heaters are cheap to run, they stay hot after they have been turned off so must be cheaper than an electric fan heater. Hopefully this cold snap won?t last much longer and it will have warmed up by the time you are due. Perhaps you could move somewhere warmer in time for next year?
