I just saved over £10 on my foodshop by....

....shoppin online at asda rather than tesco. I had my whole tesco online grocery shop oder confirmed and everything, then out of curiosity went to asda and selected the exact same stuff and it came to over £10 less. The only difference is I couldn't get the brand of coffee I liked in asda. So I confirmed the asda order and cancelled the tesco one! I had thought right, if I shop in tesco they'll reward me with points which I can use to treat myself with something nice, but it's false economy. I've just proved asda IS cheaper! Oh and online shopping saves me a fortune cos you can see the total amount adding up and you're more careful about what you choose and you can compare prices more easily and when I've finished I can easily "click" 3 or 4 unnecessary items out of the "basket," thus saving me about a further £5. Oh, and no queues or traffic jams or trolley-bumping or heaving heavy stuff in and out of the car in the rain! Choose a £3 delivery slot and the pros far outweigh the cons!

Asda is cheaper than tesco, but I think that Tesco branded products tend to be a bit better quality than Asda.
I tend to shop in Tesco most of the time, and then do an occasional Asda shop for branded things that wont go off eg cleaning products, cat food, toiletries.

We have 2 local Tescos which would be very handy for shopping, but my DS is allergic to nuts & ALL Tesco's own-branded goods carry a nut warning, even tuna (?) and lemonade(??). It makes my blood boil when I know they must do it just to protect themselves.

We have a brand-spanking shiny new Asda which is lovely. Some of their own brands (esp the cheese) are not so good, but if you're careful about what you buy, through trial & error, you can save money.

I love Sainsburys & Waitrose, but they're just for special occasions (like when I have a bit of money).

Oh look OP gone quiet

JesusChristOtterStar · 08/11/2009 21:24

i allegedly cost asda an undisclosed but hundreds of thousands of pounds by doing this...

my mate new an MD of asda who she took the evidence to and they then did some HUGE price check thing costing all that...SERIOUSLY!

anyway the upshot is...adsa stuff is minging - tins etc not nce so not worth the saving

JesusChristOtterStar · 08/11/2009 21:31

knew knew knew

Pinkmarshmallow · 09/11/2009 13:21

Sixtyfootdoll, I ain't gone quiet, I'm right here... went to bed really early last night, wasn't feeling well.
FOr those of you who are I promise I don't work for Asda, nor did they pay me to write this!! I'm actually laughing that this post got such a response and turned into a big debate about which is the best supermarket! I was just all happy that I'd saved some money as my maternity pay has stopped and I have no job, hence no income now

asda very good for basics like nappies, wipes etc.

I tend to do a monthly online shop with asda and then top up in waitrose.

FWIW I was really surprised at the way people reacted on this thread. Didn't sound at all like advertising to me. Hope you're feeling better now .

alwayslookingforanswers · 09/11/2009 13:34

I always use mysupermarket - and use the swap and saves as well. ThenI know I'm getting the best deal around.

Mind Tesco have f*cked up too many times now do I dont ues them - I use either Ocado or Asda no problems with either (service or food)

SixtyFootDoll · 09/11/2009 22:14

Apologies PM, I am jsut not used to anyoen being so enthusiastic about their weekly shop
Hope you are feeling better.

Pinkmarshmallow · 10/11/2009 15:51

Apologies accepted, SFD, when I look back, I was a bit over-enthusiastic about it all!! Maybe I need to get out more? oh, and by the way, Asda shop arrived today and all well. We seem to have good pickers and packers in this area.
