Crazy Price Rises

So we’ve been in this ‘Cost of Living’ crisis for a while now but has anyone else notice some insane price increases for everyday items more recently. Today a deodorant I have usually bought for £2.50 is priced at £4.75, toothpaste £7.00 and a pack of throat lozenges £6.50 pretty sure the last time I bought these they were around £4. Yes I know I can probably shop around and find these things on offer somewhere but they are just an example of items in a high st pharmacy that I would have previously purchased without a second thought. Don’t get me started on food costs even buying some sweets for trick or treating tonight had me wincing, it’s just really frightening and I don’t know where it will end or how people are just accepting it.

Please share some more of your Crazy Price stories so that we can see how mad this is all getting.

As it’s been said many times including in the actual OP, this is not a discussion about buying choices.

It’s a thread about noticing crazy price hikes.
Have you noticed any?

Not to the degree the OP has, no. Because I shop in cheaper shops and am not wedded to expensive brands. HTH.

@ImJustATeenageGreboBabysome of us need Sensodyne and it’s often £7 when full price.

I used the Oral B enamel tooth repair which was fearfully expensive but I found that it went on and off sale at Amazon quite a bit so I used to stock up when it was on offer. It's worth having a look at online shopping for those things sometimes.

HTH?
Erm, I didn’t ask for help … although, of course, it’s nice to read everyone’s views.

I think some of the responses here are a great example of why the cost of living riots on the continent will not spread to the UK. For every concerned citizen there is someone admonishing them about their lack of due diligence in the weekly shop. It's an interesting insight into the national psyche.
If riots do break out here we'll have half of middle England mounting counter protests with signs saying "You can always shop at LIDL".

Yes I agree that price rises are eye-popping. I regularly commute into a central London train station, their Boots closed during covid being replaced by a I-saw-you-coming Lloyds. I've had to buy their overpriced pain relief because the pharmacist was busy and I didn't have time to wait for a bigger behind the counter pack... we had already munched our way through what I could buy via my online shop. I couldn't predict I'd have this bug for 3 weeks and need painkillers every day.
I can also add that quality is an issue, sometimes in ways that are hidden. I have a breadmaker and just joined a Facebook group for my model. Lots of complaints about flour & yeast of different brands.

I feel increasingly that my lifestyle is returning to what it was 30 years ago when I didn't have money.

I noticed that minced beef has gone up, to a level that I am not willing to pay. I think that I will seek out my local butcher, which is not based in the most accessible of places, to buy some mince, from now on. At least there, I can ask for the exact amount that I require. There are always alternatives, and I will diverge if necessary.

I only ever buy things that are on offer and i build up a stash so i have a good few months worth. Aquafresh toothpaste 100mls is still £1 in Home Bargains, i have six. Same with washing up liquid, washing capsules and virtually everything else, i buy enough so that i never run out and have to buy at whatever ridiculous price the shops are charging on that day. It just makes sense to me.

The cost of 'drugstore' makeup has gone up massively in the past few years. Why is a Maybelline mascara now £12?
