Hi just wondering how much most people have in savings? Does anyone have nothing or very little.

OP posts:

When I was working probably enough to cover a big problem with a car or household kit like a boiler.

Valid8me · 17/04/2026 12:54

How will it help you knowing how much I have in savings? You don't know how much I earn, what my outgoings are, what my situation is etc

Plenty of people have nothing or very little.

Era · 17/04/2026 12:55

why?

Era · 17/04/2026 12:59

I have £350k in savings accounts, £50k in premium bonds, £400k in S&S isa and £200k in cash isa. Pension is worth c£1.1m

Does that help?

Answer is it doesn't. And you don't know whether I'm fibbing

Majin · 17/04/2026 18:22

6k. I earn 31k before tax and recieve Uc top up(single parent). As a renter it just seemed like it was better putting any extra I can scrounge together into my pension while I'm still receiving UC.
Probably seems like a pittance to some and a gold mine to others but I've made sacrifices to save it and it makes me feel more at ease about dealing with unforseen financial problems.

And if for some reason it would help you there are about 1000 previous threads asking the same thing

Mumsnetters are weirdly invested in how much strangers have in savings

You need to rephrase

" I have an income/joint income of such and such, mortgage of such and such and am only saving such and such, can I do more? " perhaps

Because not one answer is giving anything worth while to your question

I could easily answer a billion - it means jack shit

ShanghaiDiva · 17/04/2026 21:57

Not this again. I have loads. HTH.

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 17/04/2026 21:58

6-12 months worth of expenses is a good aim to save towards

Notmyreality · 17/04/2026 21:59

I’ve got shit loads.
Hope that helps.

ToffeeCrabApple · 18/04/2026 05:43

There are loads of news articles etc saying most people in UK do not have much (indeed anything) in savings.

Mumsnet demographic includes a relatively high proportion of high earners who will have an above average level of savings

Bjorkdidit · 18/04/2026 06:12

Proper surveys, ie not asking on Mumsnet, which is disproportionately affluent and financially responsible, report that a significant percentage of the population (possibly over half) have little or nothing in savings, ie under £1000.

But comparing yourself with other people who have different incomes, outgoings, priorities and are at a different life stage is completely pointless.

All you can do is make the best of your own situation and save what you can. If you need to increase your income or reduce your spending to improve what's available to save, there's lots of advice online on how to do that.

GreenGodiva · 18/04/2026 06:14

About £1500 and that’s it. Bit wet have added to credit for an emergency and are actively saving more into pensions and savings. Just set up a new standing order to increase savings by £150-200 a month. Just hoping to build a buffer and work towards a new kitchen and some garden improvements
