How to make £1000 ?

Gintime74 · 12/04/2026 12:49

I need to make £1000 over the next 3-4 months to make my budget more balanced with a small amount of flex.
I cant cut back anywhere apart from walking more and not buying take out coffees which i am doing(but as they arent budgeted for anyway this wont make a difference) Does anyone have any ideas please?
I work full time and cant take on any more unless its something i can do from home or on commute.

Matched betting, online surveys, selling stuff, swapping bank accounts, cashback offers, referral codes.

FFSToEverythingSince2020 · 12/04/2026 13:00

In addition to what @titchy mentioned, there are lots of parts of the gig economy that you can participate in from home. Check if any of your skills are marketed somewhere like Fiverr. OnlyFans is another option (there are mums who do it in luchador masks and things and there are all kinds of fetishes - you could video yourself just cleaning the bloody house but in a weird costume).

BlueberrySummerCloud · 12/04/2026 13:04

Swap bank accounts
So easy and you can get some good deals £200- 400 depending on the type of account

Sell on Vinted
Surveys
Check interest rates on savings-Monzo pays monthly

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 12/04/2026 13:08

Cut your own hair a couple times, go veggie and replace meal with tinned lentils, sell everything you can on Vinted, DIY nails, meal prep,

MagnoliaTreeBlossom · 12/04/2026 13:13

In addition to PPs suggestions, have you gone through your budget to identify all spending? Can you reduce or remove any outgoings?

Can you freeze any memberships? I can freeze my gym membership for up to 6 months without any admin fee.

Can you check and renegotiate any contracts for reduced tariffs or better deals?

Not spending money on takeaway coffee will reduce your spending. Can you reduce your food spending by using what is in your cupboards, fridge and freezer and only topping up fresh/perishable food.

No new purchases for the next 90 days. Social budget - Go on less expensive/free outings and set a cash only budget.

Extend time between hair and beauty appointments to reduce the frequency and cost per month/year.

Clear out anything that you do not need. Sell it online.

If you aim for £1000 in 4 months, you need to save £50 a week. You can decide it this is manageable or if you need to extend your timescale.

Gintime74 · 12/04/2026 13:28

Thank you, great ideas. I have already gone through my budget and made as many cuts as possible, already cut my own hair, have no spend weeks etc.
I def need to make an extra £1000 . Next year i will be in a better position as will be debt free by Jan (apart from mortgage). I dont want to delay that by borrowing more or extending repayment plans. Matched betting may not work for me as tried that a few years back and i made £200 but then got caught and had accounts frozen. Vinted and surveys are pobably my best bet. I will check out the £10 a day thread.

Is it just you that you need to consider?

Jellybunny98 · 12/04/2026 15:13

Do you have social media, particularly tiktok, with any kind of following? One of my friends started working with small brands while on maternity leave mainly on tiktok and was being paid £10-30 on average for each post, she only had about 600 followers at the time so not a huge influencer or anything but she would post just one or two a week and that was a good little side earner so could be worth a try for you?

I know it’s a bit of a joke but taking in ironing always strikes me as a great thing to do.

I’ve had a cleaner/housekeeper for years now but very when my DC were tiny and I was at home I had someone who did my ironing, she collected and returned it and I didn’t have to commit to set hours or times, it was brilliant.

now at my office and gym we have an ironing service, which is extraordinarily expensive, so it seems good money can be earnt.

This! There is a lady on our local facebook who does ironing for people and every time she posts there are at least 5 people commenting asking for availability, and she often posts to say she’s full and can’t take on new people atm so there is definitely a market for it where we are at least.

suki1964 · 12/04/2026 22:00

Dont know if this has been offered as help already, but seriously declutter , FB market place has no fees . I sell on there regularly , good items, but I cant be doing with Ebay because of postage , this way I sell local and people pick up

Some things go within minutes, others I might forget about and two months down the line someone will get in touch I tend to sell bigger items that are of no use to me, like a food processor, juicer, stuff Ive bought over the years and no longer use

myusernamewastakenbyme · 14/04/2026 21:19

My son has got me into opening bank accounts...I have earnt over £400 in the last 6 weeks and have not had to switch my main account.
Pls pm if you want any codes...i have the following
Starling....free £25
Monzo.....£10...£20 or £50
Zopa .....£10
Chase....£50

These are all dead easy and no switching required.

ToffeeCrabApple · 15/04/2026 06:45

If you have kids and your issue is lack of childcare, can you do some weekend paid delivery work with them in the car? Not ideal but if it just got you towards that 1000 it's not the worst thing

Does anyone iron any more? God i barely use my iron. Dh does an odd shirt but we dont routinely iron other clothes or bedding.

PaperMachePanda · 15/04/2026 09:35

Vinted and eBay (I prefer Vinted though as the buyer pays postage and it's easier to list).

I'm having a massive clear out of my house and selling stuff we no longer need, want or use and the money is piling up.

Even the things you might think might not make money will make money. Don't overprice and it will sell. Obviously is you shouldn't undervalue either but with things like old kids toys well put them on Vinted for between £3.99 and £6.99.

Sell 100 things at £6.99 and you've made yourself nearly £700.

My clothes would look dreadful if they weren’t ironed, but I wear a lot of tailored trousers and silk or cotton tops/blouses/dresses. They definitely need ironing.

I don’t think this is especially eccentric, despite the rather energetic insistence on MN that ironing is a pointless relic, practised only by Stepford wives or the boring few with nothing better to do.

I do AI training as a supplement to my language teaching, which fluctuates as students go on holiday. It is quite fun and if you get accepted you can work on lots of interesting projects from home and whenever it suits you. I think I average £1400 per month on it, and there is always way more work available than I can do. I do spend quite a lot of time working on it though, the hourly rates are good but not insanely high.
Let me know if you would like to be referred.

This sounds interesting. Training people to use AI, do you mean?

LowFlyingBacon · 15/04/2026 21:17

I started doing TikTok’s and made £1,000 in 3 months. It wasn’t easy because it’s time consuming, but wasn’t difficult to do. Once you’ve got over 1,000 followers the you can start selling products from TikTok shop. There’s an option on the shop to scan/picture items in your home and if they’re for sale on TikTok then you can link the product in the shop and get commission on sales. You have to be consistent, multiple posts a day, lots of time spent on there watching and engaging with others. But easy for an evening doom scroll and fits around my job and kids so great to make some extra money!

TheeNotoriousPIG · 15/04/2026 21:43

What are your FT hours, OP? I ask because I recently got a very part-time job doing evening milkings on a dairy farm. It's well-paid for what it is (some farms do pay less, admittedly), 15 minutes from home, and it's 2.5 hours a time. It's easy enough to learn the routine, but it will take time to spot problems such as mastitis. I do realise, however, that this might be out of the question if you live in a city, some towns, or an area where dairy farming is uncommon!

Other than that, I'm not sure, as I've been asking myself the same question recently! I do YouGov surveys sometimes, but that's only a £50 bank transfer or gift card every so often.

Local overnight pet sitting service. People love their pets and need reliable sitters who can give medicine.

KeeleyJ · 15/04/2026 22:06

What type of job do you do? Any option for regular overtime?

Mortgage payment holiday?

Current Account switching for the introductory bonus (not recommended if you are remortgaging soon as it might cause a short term dip in your credit rating).

Don't buy anything you absolutely don't need. Drink tap water not juice - miserable yes but personally would save us £20 per week if we skipped coke, posh fresh orange, cans of fruity sparkling water and tonic water .

Food - have a proper stock take, use up what you have.

No, training the AIs themselves. So for example, you train them to help with school work (guide the student but not give away the answer straight away), or I often train them in different languages as I am multilingual and they are not very good at certain languages yet.

That’s really interesting. Did you see Grayson Perrys programme on AI last night? It’s a series I think.
