I have just signed up for my blue light card, we also get a scheme through work (Vivup if anyone else uses it)

I am really not good at using vouchers, gift cards , duscoubts etc but very much struggling fibancialky so need to get rid of my "its too difficult" attitude and start making the most of these tools

Any tips or pointers to get the most out of it gratefully recieved.

I tend to online shop at tesco. I have easy access to Sainsbury and Lidl. I can go to Aldi, Asda, Morrisons but none are convenient really.

Personally I haven't seen how to use for grocery shopping but any other kinds of purchase I always check first on blue light. Definitely pays for itself over the year

10% off every Friday at Morrisons at the moment and 4% off Sainsburys/Tesco gift cards.

I would be really careful. I have blue light and have used it for years-easily pays for itself. I have got into the habit of asking in every shop prior to purchase, and checking everything online before completing the sale, so it’s a genuine discount against what I would have paid anyway.

I say be careful because it is easy to get sucked in to - huge discount, may as well get it mindset, and therefore end up spending money. I have checked out the deals on the apps - they are not always bargains and sometimes are the same price or more due to the conditions attached.

I don’t use it for supermarkets as I don’t want to end up with discount cards which I forget to use, but there is often a Morrison deal on a Friday. It is very useful for white goods - you can usually get a small per centage against curry’s etc, which when it’s for a high value item, works out well, especially as you can get the exact value you need.

Thank you. Its a bit self defeating to have in store only cards, I am pretty rural and have to drive quite a way to the "easily" accessible shops. Shame.

This is why I end up not bothering, I am very easily put off!

You can save a lot of money. We’ve used it for holidays, clothes and cinema tickets.

I’ve used it a lot for online shopping, I don’t go to shops very often.

I don’t do the buy a gift card faff, thats not for me.

Bump

4% off Tesco gift cards now. You load them like a digital voucher. Not sure if you can use them for online shopping?

MrsMoastyToasty · 16/04/2026 21:18

DH has Perkbox. Its like Vivup. He buys the maximum amount of Tesco vouchers he can in one transaction- £200, but with the discount they only cost £192. He uses his Tesco credit card to pay for them and therefore gets his club card points.
At the till he swipes his clubcard, so gets more points. Then pays using the e voucher.
We get all our food shopping this way.

It’s OK, nothing great. I use it for cheap cinema tickets and that’s it. Most of the companies that are partnered with Blue Light I’m not interested in. I was a fan when you could link it to Asda but sadly that ended last year.

I signed up for Jam doughnut when I wanted the Air bnb vouchers and bought gift cards, I sometimes use it for supermarket as well when I can be bothered and get cash back

I have also used viv up for Air bnb, I am tempted by blue light as well

Renter2026 · 18/04/2026 07:44

I bought discounted M&S vouchers via Blue Light paying £20 a month automatically. Used the gift cards for my Christmas food shopping.

Mouthfulofquiz · 18/04/2026 07:45

I think with things like vivup, don’t you have to be aware of the implication this can have on your pension if you are buying things before tax etc?

I have a friend who is excellent at using blue light. I tried once in sports direct and ended up paying more because it didn’t apply to goods that were already on offer!
