It’s not cheap but I have a small glass of grapefruit juice every day as it’s supposed to help lower high blood pressure. Finished one carton (Sainsburys) and picked up a new one (Tropicana) that I’ve just bought from Asda, which I thought felt a bit used already.

Checked the info on the carton and it’s 150ml light! Rather than supply it in a smaller carton to make it clear that you are getting less, (for 39p more) they just aren’t filling them to the top! So that’s Tropicana off my list too.

That’s very annoying because it will waste fridge space on air.

They have shrunk again then. They used to be 1 litre then 900ml now 850ml. It’s getting ridiculous.

Has anybody else noticed tea doesn’t seem to be the same? We reckon there are less T leaves in a bag. I am now leaving the T bag in when I drink it. Small world problems I know.

M&S gold tea still tastes the same and looks the same. Try that instead. Lots of special offers on it as Xmas approaches

Missing the point entirely are you on medication for your high blood pressure?

It’s not missing the point - it’s a good question! No, it’s reviewed regularly by me and my GP and we are trying to reduce the risk by exercise (2 long return cycle commute, two long swim sessions, and a 12 mile hike at the weekend) and also diet before heading down the meds route. Ramipril gave me a shocking cough and lots of sleepless nights as a result. Endurance sport (long and far rather that quick and fast) does seem to keep it down quite drastically. Grapefruit juice can can be dangerous with some BP meds so am already aware of that.

Ok I’m glad you are aware, just making sure because I was told no grapefruit juice at all. ☺️

Also, how old are you? As if appropriate, HRT can reduce BP and evidence shows it is clinically more effective than statins at reducing heart disease & cardiac events.

halfandhalfchipsandrice · 05/11/2025 22:46

Tropicana is always so expensive too. Try Marks and Spencer pink grapefruit juice - it's lovely and much cheaper.

Parsley tea is ace for bringing down blood pressure but makes you more thirsty plus can bring on periods so best post menopause. It can also loosen the bowels. So don't make it too strong. Place a small handful of fresh parsley in a cup add boiling water and wait 4 mins.

Have a look at the DASH diet(Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension), American approach and evidence based.
