Daily cost for electricity

So we got a smart meter installed because we have a family member living in our annexe. (Thats a whole other story)

The heaters and shower are electric. There is a clear difference when they are there but we were just wondering what people's daily cost for electric is a day?

It would depend on so many variables....if they are using washing machine/ tumble dryer for example

We are only electric no gas and around £2 a day in summer and £3.50 a day in winter for a 2 bed but we have a wood burner which is on most of winter when we are home

That's a real 'how long is a piece of string' question OP. What other people pay tells you nothing but if your family member uses the electric heating and shower a lot, it could be extremely expensive.

If this could become an issue you need to have a conversation about sensible use of the heating in particular, ie not leaving it on when they go out, wearing layers instead of putting the heating on if they feel a bit cold.

If you want to charge them for electricity, you could start by looking at how much your usage and hence bill increases with them living in your annex. Look at the amount used compared with the same period last year and work out the extra cost.

As has been said, what other people pay tells you nothing as your bill depends on how much you use.

If you want to charge them you should be able to use your supplier’s app to work out day by day what the difference is if they’re there or not (make sure your meter is giving readings every half hour - again you should be able to check on the app).

I am all electric but I have a “time of use”/economy 7 tariff so my main heating and hot water heats up overnight and I get a cheaper unit rate for 7 hours overnight. If you have a standard tariff that’s the same all day/night the electric heating will be very expensive. We have standalone electric radiators in some rooms and they are expensive to run.

Yesterday, including standing charges, £1.80 in elec and £0.70 in gas for 4 of us.

In a couple of months, maybe £2.50 in elec and £8.00 in gas.
