You definitely don’t need a nappy changing unit, baby chair and baby lounger. I never bought a room thermometer - why are they needed?

Mulledjuice · 27/08/2025 20:59

Room/bath thermometer I found helpful.
I dont know what a baby chair/lounger are.
I think you need a pram and a sling. Worth looking into a local sling librarym
Do you have a car? If so do you have a car seat?
Where will your baby sleep?
Why does the baby need a seesaw?

Just had baby no.3 and I would say most essential/vital baby items is somewhere safe to sleep, clothes to wear and a pram or sling for going out. Lots of other bits are definitely useful but I wouldn’t stress too much if you don’t have them. We change nappy on a chest of draws with change mat or on the bed kneeling down, baby is put on a cushion for tummy time and for lounging on the sofa. Temperature, I just use how I’m feeling and some common sense to measure. Like I said lots of bits useful and nice to have but not essential if you want to keep costs down.

There’s not a lot that’s actually essential but loads of ‘nice to haves’

Essentials
-a place to sleep (next to me/moses basket/cot)
-clothes (about 10 vests & sleepsuits in up to 1m & 0-3, plus a couple of cardigans)
-a cellular blanket
-nappies and wipes
-feeding stuff, some breastpads if you’re bf, bottles/formula/steriliser if not
-a car seat if you drive (maxicosi cabriofix isize is the best budget seat, around £100 but sometimes on offer for £80ish)
-a pram or carrier for walks

Everything else is a nice to have and you can buy it when baby is already here

Most stuff apart from a few clothes nappies cotton wool and hats you can get next day delivered as you need it op don’t worry. Don’t let people tell you not to use dummies you’re right they reduce side
