Gaming app taken my money

whitebunnies · 02/08/2025 12:30

I am part of a survey app and am always paid. They recommended a gaming app called Solitaire Clash where you get paid to play. This gaming app has taken £8 out of my bank account via PayPal. I did not authorise this transaction. I have put in a claim through PayPal and they refused to give the money back.

I feel sick because I went on there to win money as I need money and yet they have taken it from me. I usually don’t fall for scams and it’s got me down. There must be other ways to make money.

Just fed up of not being able to go anywhere. I work full time. It just seems like everyone else is going abroad and driving brand new cars and I don’t know how they do it.

Sorry you’re struggling OP. I think a lot of it depends on where you live & if you have a two income household to be honest. My husband & I both work, 1 child with another on the way, and although we’re certainly not millionaires we are comfortable financially however we have friends with exactly the same jobs & house type we have who live down South who are really struggling financially, so a lot of it does depend on where you live I think & particularly the house prices where you live. As I say our friends & us have pretty much the same house, but theirs is valued at nearly double ours so their mortgage is crazy compared to ours.

Do you have a partner who earns? And are you claiming everything you may be entitled to?

PinkFrogss · 02/08/2025 13:03

I’m not familiar with that exact app but based on my knowledge of similar apps it’s basically gambling, you spend money with the chance to win money. Sorry to say but did you really think you’d get free money for playing solitaire? Put it down as £8 lost to a silly mistake.

The people going on holiday regularly and driving round brand new cars are either very high earners, have help from family, have won the lotto/had some sort of large compensation payment, or are drowning in debt. I’m imagine a lot fall into the latter category.

Would you be comfortable listing your income and outgoings? People may be able to give advice on that.

Ihateslugs · 02/08/2025 13:08

For some reason, I get loads of ads for Solitaire Cash on my phone which show people winning large amounts of cash ( always American dollars, like £$100) for just playing one game! I know it’s not true, you don’t win money without paying something first but I agree that the ads do not mention any need to pay first and make it look so easy.

I don’t gamble or play many games online so I’m bemused as to why I get these targeted ads.

@whitebunnies
Be careful OP my BiL lost everything he owned and every cent he had chasing a lifestyle he was envious of in others through the same mindset… click here to play. Click here to get instant winnings. Click here for large returns.

Its all a scam and I’ll tell you the same things I told him that if it’s too good to be true, it usually is and those businesses such as online gaming and casinos are only in business because they ‘win’ more than the customer ‘wins’… it’s just common sense unfortunately and sometimes common sense gets lost in the chase.

If you are truly that bothered by £8 I would suggest that you really can’t afford to be suckered in by anything else and would exercise extreme caution as you proceed

Luckily you've only lost £8 which is frustrating but not the end of the world. There's no such thing as 3 money, there's always a catch. People with more lavish lifestyles either have a lot of debt or earn a high income. No one is living the dream from signing up to some survey apps.

The bigger issue for you sounds like you are fed up with your life and income. What can you do about that? What is your job? Is there scope for making career progression or is it time to consider retraining?

mickandrorty · 02/08/2025 13:33

Prolific is the only survey site I would recommend there is no screening out and I've made 1.7k on there doing them in my spare time over a couple of years. I know its not a fortune but it's a nice bit of bonus money for not much effort.

Just reread my post and have no clue why it says 3 money....I meant free money. Can't imagine it was autocorrect....can only blame it on tiredness induced stupidity.

Finteq · 02/08/2025 17:23

It doesn't help you.

But at £8 youve learned a lesson very cheaply.

These apps will suck you dry.
And don't gamble.

suki1964 · 03/08/2025 08:10

I get that ad show up a lot as well. You have to deposit $10 to play ( £8 ) then you can only cash out after a certain amount of winnings - which means you never can

A quick google of it would have told you that

Lesson learned now I hope

However if £8 is making a huge difference to you have you checked if you are entitled to any benefits?

Also search locally for comunity fridges and download the Olio app - free food which helps. TooGoodToGo is another great app, you do have to pay for the food but very little

Thanks for all the advice. I was able to cash out £5.60 with a £2.40 transaction fee lost. I will look at all the sites suggested on this thread to get a more safe and honest way of making more money.

I will probably look for a better paying job as that will make a difference.

I‘ve tried Solitaire and not got anywhere. I have started using PlayTest Pro. Here you don’t get paid according to level, think it’s time debt. I manage to earn £3-4 every few days. I play when I’m waiting for a bus. In the bus or when I’m at home if I’ve got a bit of spare time or want to justify watching TV

It's hard but you learned a lesson OP if it looks too good to be true it's a scam. If you didn't authorise the payment your bank might reimburse you.

caringcarer · 08/08/2025 13:26

OP could you do a bit of dog walking, cleaning or baby sitting to earn a bit of extra cash. I pay someone to bake me a half a dozen cakes when they bake themselves some. I just pay them cash. Maybe you could do something like that.

Tomikka · 08/08/2025 13:32

@whitebunnies
Check that you don’t have any subscriptions etc that have been enabled by the app, otherwise you may find another £8 gone in a months time

Check your phone, and your PayPal etc
