Nope

Onequestionintime · 31/05/2025 13:04

I did and used it when I had an operation that went wrong (and never been able to work since). It literally saved me loosing the house (single parent) till my benefits and ill health pension got sorted. My critical illness wouldn't pay out as I didn't have an illness on there list.

Mrsttcno1 · 31/05/2025 13:05

Yes, husband & I both have it. Husband works in the financial industry and advises every client to get it, unless you have an endless pot of money, a brilliant sickness package with your employer or your partner’s income entirely covers all bills and spending you’d be stupid not to take out an income protection policy.

nebulae · 31/05/2025 13:08

I'm afraid you won't be able to get income protection if you've been diagnosed with CFS. I underwrite income protection policies and I wouldn't offer it to anyone with CFS, you'd need to be symptom free for several years.

Yeah - i looked into it previously & it seemed hard to get

No I'm ineligible for income protection or critical illness (or even life cover atm) due to pre-existing conditions. I just have to save a lot and hope for the best.

Chewbecca · 31/05/2025 13:13

No, good work sick leave policy &, at a push, DH could cover the bills.

lostmywayrightnow · 31/05/2025 13:14

I don't but my DH does and it is now paying out (his work are terrible for sickness). Not covering everything but way better than nothing. My work has a better policy.

declutteringmymind · 31/05/2025 13:17

No as we are financially secure, have good sick benefits and pension that will pay out if retired early due to sickness. However I have ringfenced 2 years
expenses. I inherited it when my dad passed and I’ve kept it so I can take a career break if I need to look after my mum so it’s there if I need it.

ThatMum73 · 31/05/2025 13:20

I think you need to have a look at your overall situation. We had it but it took ages to payout and didn't cover full wage so at the time it made more sense to accept that if the situation arose we would be best off claiming benefits. That is what they are there for, a safety net that you contribute towards through working, for when times are difficult.

If you have large outgoings then it's worth getting but in that case you're more likely to have a generous income that can afford the payments

DisplayPurposesOnly · 31/05/2025 13:24

Yes, I do. Long-term single, no other income to rely on. Took it out in my 30s when I bought my first house.

FunnysInLaJardin · 31/05/2025 13:28

yes, I took a policy out after a cancer scare when I realised that if I fell seriously ill and couldn't work, we would lose the house

Peanut91 · 31/05/2025 13:33

Yes both DH and I have it as well as critical illness cover and life assurance. With a young family and bills to pay it would be stupid not tool

ByLimeAnt · 31/05/2025 13:40

Yes. It was brilliant when I was very unwell and paid our very quickly. Wouldn't be without it.

Loveduppenguin · 31/05/2025 16:37

Yes I have income protection and life assurance. I’m medically underwritten for life. I don’t have to inform them of any health issues but I still do

Hoppinggreen · 31/05/2025 16:38

Yes but we are both SE

Ilady · 02/06/2025 14:04

I don't have it myself. A lady I know has it. She has a senior role with decent pay and work gave her a full salary for a few months of sickness. She decided to get income protection due to her husband being self employed, having a mortgage and a child.

A few years ago she got COVID and she said it was like a bad flu. After this she ended up with long COVID. In the early days of this she was hardly able to walk for 10 mins before needing to sit down.
She got up in the morning and got her child ready for school. Her husband dropped her child to school and she go back to bed.
She was seeing her own doctor and consultants due to this and she was not physically able to work. She has been claiming on income protection since then.
Her health is improving. She hopes to go back to work if and when she is able.
