Universal credit help?

hello, I’m just wondering if anyone could help me or advise. I have split up with my partner. We have 2 children 2 and 4. We have a mortgage on our house together and are currently still both living in the house ( not ideal at all) we are living in separate rooms but trying to keep things as nice in the house as possible for children. I am not working and haven’t done since having the kids and he has always supported us. I’m just wondering where I still with universal credit with us both living here still and having a mortgage? He is paying fully for the children but not for me at all ( which is expected or course) I am of course looking for work but finding it abit harder with the kids. Could anyone tell me if I would be entitled to any help? We haven’t ever claimed anything before due to his earnings being too high too. Thank you

Are you married? I think if your not then you can claim as single if you're living as separate households under the same roof (eg. Not shareing meals or socialising together). You won't get the rent element but will get a slightly higher rate for the standard allowance to contribute towards housing.

It doesn't matter whether you are married or not. It pretty much never does in UC.

If you're estranged but under the same roof you can claim but you need to show that you are two separate households. There's no clear definition of a household; each case is looked at on its facts. You would need to show things like money, food and household tasks were done separately.

As your youngest child is 2, you would be expected to have appointments with the job centre and prepare your CV for work. Once your youngest is 3, you will be expected to seek and obtain work for 30 hours per week.

You would get the single amount, plus 2 child amounts. No rent allowance, but you would get a higher work allowance before deductions are made. Child care costs at 85% if you start working (subject to deductions for earning). Child maintenance is disregarded.
