Sponsorship advice

DS is competing in a Tae Kwon do competition abroad and the children who are going have been asked to fundraise for themselves and get sponsorship from businesses.

This is new to me, how would one go about sponsorship from a business please?

You approach them explain the trip and competition and the exposure they would get on social media etc? How much do they sponsor and who decides this?!
Any info much appreciated thank you!

It's normally the businesses owned by their family or godparents etc IME.

I agree with this ^

You have to ask yourself what a local business will gain from social media exposure in a (presumably youth amateur) competition abroad.

How much are they expected to raise?

Do any of your family or friends own their own businesses or have any say over getting their employer to sponsor it?

If DS is competing at a very high level, you might get some sponsorship from a local sports shop, local gym or Tae Kwondo equipment supplier.

I do know of a local youngster who competes all over, not quite old enough for lottery funding but in England development team for 2028 Olympics, he has sponsorship from local businesses and puts sponsorships around town eg pubs, independent businesses. I'm not sure this would work in a city but here there's a feeling of helping "one of our own" go to competitions, niche sport without much funding.

The businesses to approach would be ones where the owner is actively involved in the business and where public opinion helps so retail, trades who advertise to the public, hospitality etc
