Confused, which energy tariff to choose (or not)

DH was always the one to look into energy tariffs, unfortunately he can’t do that anymore so I need to.

We are with EDF currently on a variable tariff

There’s a tariff which is pretty much exactly the same as what we’re paying already, but the standing charges for both gas and electricity is cheaper.

Having taken a look via Martin’s money, it says that when the cap changes so will the tarif.

i have no blooming idea wtf I should be doing.

stay as is and risk the prices rising or choose something similar to what we have now and fix for a year. As DH now in a home my usage will be less anyway but he’s not able to talk to me about it. Feeling very lost and sad.

Flowers That sounds tough.

Martin Lewis said in his podcast on 16 January that if you can get a fix at around the same price as the current energy cap it's likely to be worth taking because prices are predicted to rise in the next few months.

That podcast and also the Moneysaving Expert website is really good for finding out about all aspects of money management if you're inexperienced - eg best prices for broadband, streaming services, mobile phones etc.

There's a 'cheap energy club' where you can enter details of your usage and current tariff and it will tell you if it's worth switching - if you're not on a deal, it's worth checking regularly as suppliers introduce new tariffs all the time.

We were on a fix that finished last summer and when I started looking around again, there was nothing cheaper than the price cap, so I let it roll onto that, but then a new slightly cheaper fix was introduced, so I took that, but I did see that it was only available for a few days before it sold out and was replaced by something more expensive.

@Bjorkdidit thank you so much that was exceptionally helpful and I have now chosen what I think is the best deal for me at the moment.
