As we are practically all anonymous I don't see this should be an issue with bro g honest. I've never really felt the need to save much, lately I'm starting to regret that, luckily I'm still under 30. No idea what a 'reasonable' amount of savings would be considered

Absolutely nothing.

Im only posting this because its indicative of how much things change and of course I’ve name changed.

At 30 DH and 4 young DC, no savings - 2 overdrafts, 4 credit cards, student loans and professional loans. We owed about £80k

We had a £220k mortgage and about £50k of equity, nothing to speak of in a pension and we lived month to month.

Now mid 40s, with older DC we have 5k in cash, 50k in the bank, 450k in long term investments; our pensions are maxed out and our mortgage on a £2.5m house will be paid off shortly. We own two other properties, one overseas and one lived in by one of our DC.

no one died, no banks were robbed. We invested and saved and worked hard. Definitely got very lucky along the way.

when I was panicking about how to pay for the basics, I couldn’t have imagined this.

single parent here forever, now 51 and have around £85k in savings. mortgage paid off. have always earn t well but also been frugal over the years so that we had a cushion as just one wage. children now both late teens and both in education so can’t contribute. it’s a struggle each month but i protect the savings pot as you never know what is round fhe corner.
