How cold is it where you are?

Are you worried about the old people who are too concerned about paying their bills because they’ve lost their WFA to put their heating on/up?

It's bitterly cold outside, but we're blessed to afford heating, warm blankets, and a well insulated home. The people I worry for are struggling parents with small children, disabled folk, and all sleeping rough in this weather.

No good moaning about WFA that may or may not be getting to those that need it. The best thing to do if possible is donate spare blankets and warm clothes, offer to buy warm drinks for those living outside at this time of year, and be glad every day you fall asleep not shivering.

Warm spaces in churches and community spaces, night patrol organisations, and charities like the Whitechapel Centre, Lifeshare and The Peoples Kitchen need donations of warm clothes, tea, sleeping bags, and food more than ever.

@SabreIsMyFave , I’m very confused. Aren’t those on the left of politics supposed to be caring and concern themselves with those who are struggling and vulnerable? That’s what I always believed. It made up for their economic illiteracy. It turns out many are way, way more selfish and hard hearted than any Conservative voter would be, who knew? 🤷🏼‍♀️
So much for the smug self congratulating attitude, so much for looking down your noses from the lofty heights of you superior morals. It was always a lie. Now we know the unedifying truth.

Aren’t those on the left of politics supposed to be caring and concern themselves with those who are struggling and vulnerable?

Yes, and that's why WFA is still there for anyone on Pension Credit.

all sleeping rough in this weather.

@soupfiend claimed that pensioners "are the poorest among society" and then accused me of not understanding statistics when I challenged this.

Pensioners are not the poorest demographic in the UK: rough sleepers are. 100% of rough sleepers cannot afford to even rent a bedsit. If they could, they wouldn't sleep rough.

I live in the state of Pennsylvania and it will be 11° F tomorrow morning and with the wind chill lower.

@selffellatingouroborosofhate , that is a smokescreen. There are very many who will narrowly miss the very low cut off point for pension credit and even more who would be eligible but don’t have it about them to fill out the forms. Labour and her supporters know this will cause suffering. It doesn’t matter how you try and spin this anyone who supports this policy with a cut off at this level supports that suffering. The nasty party/ people in my opinion.

The same is true for disabled children. Where's your concern for them?

ShirkingFromHome95 · 15/01/2025 00:09

Last week it was freezing temps all week. It's a bit warmer this week.

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 15/01/2025 01:32

If I was starting a thread to attack Labour's WFA policies, I'd talk about the disabled kids who don't get WFA. A lot of people are sick of "poor pensioners" rhetoric when we can see how the Boomer generation as a class have wealth in the form of owned homes. It's beyond unjust to demand that this change be reversed for pensioners whilst saying nothing about the disabled children who are also vulnerable to cold weather.

(Edited after confusion over some adults still getting DLA from old claims. Only children can claim it now.)
