Hi all,

I was wondering what everyone’s gas/electric bills are generally for Nov-March if you live in a pre 1900 4 bedroom house?

We just got onto the property ladder and bills are a lot more than what we were paying before.

We have a small baby, and are on track to be at around £300 for Januarys bill. We are with octopus.

TIA

I don’t think anyone’s answers can be helpful without knowing how much you have your heating on and how warm you keep your house, and how it compares to others. It’s possible that you keep your house much warmer than other people in which case if they are spending less than you then it’s obviously due to you have your heating on more than them. Likewise it’s also possible that you are trying not to have the heating on much but the house is so poorly insulated that spending £300 is actually not that bad.

FWIW I currently live in an absolutely freezing cold 50s house and we have been fairly liberal with the heating recently because it’s just so cold and we are looking at around £180 this month. But we pay £130 every month direct debit and this sees us through the year.

I pay £220 a month.

January bill likely to be £350.

Both work from home so heating on at least 10 hours a day.

4 bed 4 bath detached. Built 2007. Upstairs always toasty warm (except when we go to bed as we like it no more than 14 degrees in bed) but downstairs not so much.

I refuse to be cold, my logic is if my bill gets too much ill ask to go onto a payment plan. I'm not breaking me or my house for frugality.

I've just paid mine @ £191 for dec . Jan
will prob be double this as I'm all electric and don't stint on the heating . I can't stand being cold . I don't put money aside or pay by DDR I just pay as I go .

£200 per month all year round, 5 bedroom house, heating in all day (not crazily high temperature) and that includes charging an electric car.

Really useful to see everyone’s replies. Thanks so much!

I have a 1880 terrace house, three beds with an old downstairs extension which has no radiator so we use an oiled filled radiator as son uses as a bedroom.
I payed £ 68 a month for both gas and electricity but was asked to put up to £88 in November. I have about 300 in credit.
After googling loads,I've found if you turn the boiler flow right down and have the heating on low all the time, instead of big bursts, it's even cheaper. However,my thermostat is showing 15 and yet the house is permanently warmish. Last month my gas bill was £23 including the standing price( forgot name).
