Asda Aldi 6 salad tomatoes 99p today
Asda own brand tissues £1.20 last week £1.10.

It's ridiculous. It's little but it all adds up.

I know it’s painful such an expensive time of the year too.

username299 · 13/12/2024 12:46

My food shopping has gone through the roof! Olive oil has gone up from £2:50 to £8.50! Soda crystals have gone up from a £1 to £2.30.

And they've stopped putting lids on things. I buy large pots of yogurt and there's no lid, no lids on dips either.

LividBauble · 13/12/2024 13:13

My fussy af kid likes the Tesco finest fish pies (god knows why, rejects all other foods at the moment)

They were 2 for £7 last week and 2 for £8 today. Fuck that.

Woodstocks · 13/12/2024 16:53

It just never seems to stop. Every time you go to the shop now something else has increased in price. You might get it on offer at the price that it used to be but it’s costing a fortune now just for basics!

Selkirkrose · 13/12/2024 18:45

Yes it really has. Things on 'offer' that are more expensive than they used to be when not on offer! Absolutely everything has gone through the roof 😢

Selkirkrose · 13/12/2024 18:46

I have to buy gluten free everything. Morrisons bloody GF cornflakes have doubled from 95p to about £1.95 for just 300g in less than a year.

Selkirkrose · 13/12/2024 18:47

And I wonder how many salaries have doubled or even gone up by 10%?!!!

The lid situ is driving me mad! My houmous gets a crusty top!

Obeseandashamed · 13/12/2024 18:53

I haven't noticed specific products as I rarely do a 'full shop' at one time but have noticed overall prices increasing. I also hate the no lid situation!

peebles32 · 13/12/2024 22:05

I cannot forgive Morrisons. 4 years ago Yum Yums were £1. Now £1.80.
Morrisons. Shame on you!

user1471453601 · 13/12/2024 22:11

That's inflation for you.

When the headline says inflation is down from 8% to 7% (for example) it doesnt mean prices are going down. It means they are going up 1% slower. And I don't mean to be patronising. But I admit I didn't really appreciate that fact until recently.

twohotwaterbottles · 13/12/2024 22:18

The cost of living is an absolute shit show and completely unmanageable. Soon we will all just be going to work and coming home and doing sod all inbetween.

ClassicalQueen · 13/12/2024 22:51

The prices have gone up a lot lately, fuel has also gone up in my area. I've just seen for teachers they've recommended a 2.8% rise next year. That's not going to go very far with these prices...

Latticexmas · 13/12/2024 22:54

I cannot believe, I CANNOT believe the price of my Tescos Christmas shop (click and collect on December 23). I’m ashamed to admit how much I’m spending (to feed four people) on Christmas Day.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 13/12/2024 23:02

I went to the chippy last Friday, pukka pie, battered sausage, 2 sfc and curry, peas and gravy and regular chips and 3 drinks was almost £30! Went to the shop next door for two chocolate bars and a pack of tic tacs- £3.90!

I’m curious to know how much you are spending now 😊

Crop issues put up the price of olive oil

Me too

It pisses me off no end when things take a leap of 70p+ in a week and it's the same stock as before from the warehouse.
Anyone else noticed packaging getting flimsier IE squash bottles are so thin and the shrinkage in products is astonishing to many to list

Maybe the same warehouse, growers costs increase too, as do many labour and fuel, be realistic

Thevelvelletes · 14/12/2024 08:20

When I said same warehouse I should have said within the same supermarket warehouse that houses the same stock but within that week price's can rise 70p plus an item in the course of a week.

LaPalmaLlama · 14/12/2024 08:26

The no lids and thinner plastic is to do with commitments to cut down on plastic waste. There aren’t really price equivalent alternatives to plastic for wet foods so the easiest thing is to make the existing packaging thinner or replace the lid with a film. Then they can say they met their commitment to reduce plastic packaging by 30% or whatever.

Radishknot · 14/12/2024 08:26

Even a bag of sweets is close to £3!

theculture · 14/12/2024 08:28

Derailing the thread; reusable plastic lids for lidless pots?

Paul2023 · 14/12/2024 08:31

It’s definitely noticeable. Sainsburys chocolate mousse was 99p for a pack of six not long ago. Now it’s £1.15.

Last year I’m sure their standard mince pies were also 99p for 6. Now they are £1.70.

Ive never known things to be so tough for people.
Wages, fuel, energy, I guess it all has a knock on effect.
