Energy bills

I’m trying to figure out why my energy costs are so high (for me at least). Small enough 2 bed flat. Noone at home in the day unless its the weekend. Recently moved so I dont know what is normal long term but I was set up to pay about £130 a month gas and electricity, send my new reading and they are now suggesting £180 a month. Is this normal? I dont think im excessive with heating (3 radiators in total). I looked at boiler settings and they seem to be set at the lower range of suggestions for valiant. This is a regular flat, not a new build with fancy mod cons. Most of the bill is gas, not electricity. What sort of bills are others paying in a similar set up? Thank you.

It depends how long your heating is on for and what temperature your thermostat is set to. The longer it's on and the higher the temperature, the more you will use and the more expensive it will be

I live alone in a small 2 bed flat which only has electricity, with Economy 7 overnight. I pay on a prepayment meter and in winter it's probably around £2.70 per day, which includes the standing charge, of course. I only heat the big water tank twice a week. I time electricity use as much as possible during the off peak hours, including a daily shower and running the washing machine. I rarely use the oven, just an airfryer, hob and microwave. I heat the flat by using thermostat oil filled radiators and an electric 'woodburner'.

Oh and I'm out at work 5 days per week too.

I live alone in a 2 bed with single glazing and pay <£50 a month so yours seems high

Bills are always higher in winter. £130 a month year round covers the summer months where you use less than that, and the winter ones where you pay more. You use something like 80-90% of your annual gas usage in the winter months.

I'm also in a 2 bed, have the heating on a good wedge on the last week and the most was £4 inc standing charge, electric shower, dishwasher and cooker so that is just heating.

I pay £100 a month £80 Electric / £20 gas, only use pence during the summer

But if you've just moved, check they are using the correct reads for opening and that they have the correct unit-type for gas your meter (if the bill says ft3, there's a chance it could be incorrect if you have an m3 meter).

I pay less £180 a month for a 4 bed detached and have a relatively normal energy unitusage, albeit an energy efficient house and lots of heating / lighting .

Has it given you a predicted spend in units? Can you read your meter on two consecutive Mondays and get an idea of what you're using in a week, then use the standing charge / rates from your tariff to do a guesstimate?
